    DirectX.

So why does Microsoft give it away for free?... I don't think
gaming is an incentive for people to use Windows as their OS,
almost everyboy uses Windows already anyway.

Couldn't they make a lot more money if they charged developers
to use it? Or do they eventually charge developers? If someone
made a game which sold 1billion copies, would MS get royalties
    or something?
    Staying away from General.

DirectX is free, so game developers use it, and in turn, makes the game users use Windows. Its all part of their evil plan for world domination. As we speak my team of expert fighters and hackers are gonna take them down!

    >>OpenGL.

Which is really more of one word attached to half an acronym.

    >>DirectX is free, so game developers use it, and in turn, makes the game users use Windows.

    Exactly the plan.

    >>Or do they eventually charge developers?

    No.
