In my opinion, Alpha Centauri was the best game ever made. It involves strategy, politics, research, military, space, neuclear bombs, + more. So fun to play. Anyone here play it?
Bring it!

I like "pure strategy" games, more that that type of games.
I like games like Diablo, Red Alert, ...

Games like those are too simplistic for me. I love this one becuase its so complicated and the other factions have almost real personalitiesOriginally posted by ammar

Agreed. I really don't see what the fuss is all about. It's not strategy, it's just point and click... a lot.Originally posted by Govtcheez

Aside from it not being a strategy, I personally don't find it fun at all. Give me an RTS, FPS, TBS, adventure game, action game, platformer, hell, even a sports game, but please, don't make me just sit and click at things on the screen for hours on end. I want to at least think a little bit when I play a game!
D2 does somewhat involve some strategy. If you don't make your stats proportional, you'll end up with a crappy character...take it from me

the sid meier civ series (including alpha centauri) were definitely some of my favorite games too. but computer opponents became too easy and the games didnt lend themselves well to multiplayer because of the time it took between turns, and that you never got into the late ages in a multiplayer game (the final battles usually involved chariots or knights).
for that reason, my other favorite strategy game(s) of all time is RTS: the entire Age of Empires series, especially Age of Kings.
aside from those two, the award for the most addicting game of all time (that ive ever played) goes to: Ultima Online. i know this decision is controversial, and i never played Everquest, so i cant judge whether i like it better or not as much.
those are my choices.
I came up with a cool phrase to put down here, but i forgot it...

I noticed that, too - my friend and i were playting through, and in the end, we had tanks, ships, etc., but had somehow never researched gravity, so we didn't have planes or anything like that.

i played a alpha centauri demo once and thought it was okay. ill probably get civ 3 when i get a new computer in the spring. as for a good rts game i suggest starcraft. you can get it and the expansion for 20$ or less and it is a great game, to say the least.
yum, yum potatoes!!!!!
Starcraft is nice, but it tends to where on the single player audience (me) as it starts to lack depth after a while once you discover workable strategies for the various races. I prefer good ole story-driven rpgs because (the good ones like xenogears any way) are like good books, no matter how often you read them, you pick up something new. To me the greatest game of all time is final fantasy tactics because of the sheer volume of things to do in the game. I have put two or three thousand hours into the game and still haven't seen everything there is to see.
