    e-mail, websites, privacy

    hello,

I’m getting a lot of advertising in my e-mail, and I want to stop this.
this is a part of an e-mail I got:

    >> Hi!
    >> You have signed up to get the latest news
    >> for Ricky Martin.

I never did sign up, never went to a website even related to ricky martin.
    What is this??????

I also got an e-mail from microsoft about a developers convention.
I did go to the ms website, but never subscribed to anyhing.
did I activated somthig as "autosubscribe" or something.

How do websites get my e-mail address and how do I change this?
I want to give them another address they can use, not this one.

I’m curious what else do they know about me (how do I prevent that) and how do they do it. A friend of mine told me it was a file that they accessed but I can’t find it.

Any info on this topic is welcome.

its all gimics man relax, any company you give your e-mail adress to will sell it to other companies for profit, thats why you get all those stupid e-mails, you didn't sign up for nothing then igonre it, if the e-mails for that individual keep coming the unsubscribe, by law they have to unsubscribe you.

doesn't matter.... read your mail provider's terms and conditions. They most likely reserve the right to tell their affiliates your email address. Then their affiliates tell their affiliates affiliates. And on and on, until you are getting junk every day...

You can reply to them and tell them not to email you anymore. And if that doesn't work than threaten them.

I changed my e-mail address last week because I was getting such a ridiculous amount of unsolicited mail (~20 message per day). That's the only guaranteed solution.

Other than that, you can try responding to them and asking them to stop sending you stuff... which may backfire by demonstrating to them that someone is reading them. You can try to get a filter/blocker, though I don't know where you could do that, or whether it would work with your service.

when I delete this alias, won't they be able to see an other alias?
I surtenly don't want them to use my 'good' alias.

I don't think it is my ISP who gave this info to these companies, because non of friends with the same ISP get those mails.

I'll try to unsubscribe and if that doesn't work I'll mail my ISP.

And if that doesn't work, I'll threaten them and say I know Troll_King. I'm sure they will back of then

thank you guys for all your help.

Ask them to stop first. If they don't listen than write your own virus and send it to them from an anonymous source.
