We use Forte (with the Sun JDK) at my work and I've found it very nice. I tried Netbeans at home, but since they're pretty much the same I use Forte at home to since I work with it all day. I actually prefer that IDE over Visual Studio.
I used to use JBuilder (can't stand it) and JCreator (which I liked in Beta stages) but finally settled on Forte. Much like Visual Studio, I didn't like it at first, but now I think it's great.

Forte is slower than my great grandmother. It took 20 freakin minutes to open on my PC
