The End

I was having an interesting conversation the other day about the end of the world, and how it would come about. I think that we will, with some device or another, destroy the Earth and us in an instant. Whether on purpose or by accident we will be destroyed.

We will grow to such an extent that in the end it will be our down fall, destruction.

I agree completely. Humans are too incompetant. we've screwed up too much already. I don't think it will be too much longer.

Look at where we are now from 500 years ago. Eventually our technology and arrogance will destroy the world itself, but don't worry, you'll die before you see it

I think the human survival instinct is too strong for us to all kill each other, and even if most of the planet is completely nuked, at least a handfull of paranoid people will survive in the bomb shelters they built in the sixties. In my opinion, humans are like a disease that can never be eradicated completely.

I vote for a nearby massive star going supernova, creating a black hole and irradiating the planet with lethal doses of X and gamma rays. See this months issue of Scientific American.
Or we do it to ourselves with bio weapons.
