What happened to the contest here.. do you think the contest here is worth it.. when there are sites like www.topcoder.com which manage contests professionally...
No ofence meant..

The contest here seems very loose
I am against the teaching of evolution in schools. I am also against widespread
literacy and the refrigeration of food.
Members were very keen to have one. I, for one, would never expect the efforts made by the relevent persons here, in their own time, their own cost, with few resources, to match the ad-dollars of big international sites for whom that kind of thing is their raison dé tre.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity unto the dream.
I agree with adrian *gasp*. Ygf does a great job running contests totally volentarily. One of these days this site might be able to afford to give big prizes, but until them we won't.
That's one thing that always has to be remembered at this site. All of the mods and administration are totally volentary. They give their time, and arn't thanked enough for it. Thanks mods.

I would think that being a moderator is fun rather than time-consuming

I was a mod on another board a long time ago. It's fun at first...Originally posted by abrege

I would, but I'm afraid I cannot perform any better, I'll be doing military service beginning in January and only be able to use a computer at the weekends.Originally posted by ygfperson

heh it can be fun @ first like valor_king said...but it can get extremely time consuming hehe. There's a lot of posts on a board like this, and they all have to be read over. Plus there isn't much you can do with "mod powers" without flauting it...and that's just mean heheI would think that being a moderator is fun rather than time-consuming
Well, I knew you were an expert at self-gratification, but this really takes it to new levelsOriginally posted by kermi3

Well how about trying to automate the contest as much as possible...... Like registering.. Submmiting.. and automatically sending the codes to the judges... and where the judges can come to the site and upload their verdict.... I am ready yo help in this process by providing coding help...
Do you know that through serveys they actually found which percentage of men can do this?Originally posted by -KEN-

Are you talkin' bout twackin it again golfinguy4?
Sadly enough, it's highly unlikely that the contest thread..or most of this site would compare to a "commercial" site, or sites that have paid employees as this site is totally ran by volunteers. All you see within the domain cprog.com is because someone was bored one day. Why don't you go through the "registered" users database and see JUST how absured that is.
The mods do a great job of keeping a lid on it too.
...n to think, people repost...you killed my thread! you killed my thread!
...I'm sitting there, "too bad he didn't kill/delete you" (repeat)
great job mods (and you to ygfperson)
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.
Before I became a mod, I'd primarily visited the C board to answer all the questions I could, because that was what I enjoyed doing. All other boards were a second choice for me.Originally posted by abrege

But now I'm a mod, I feel I have to visit them all and do my best to review every post, just to make sure things are all in order. In fact, GD is normally my first choice now, because that, imho, is place most likely to need moderating. I'm not complaining, I do enjoy doing it, but it is a lot more time consuming than before.
And if we're on a role of thanking people, I'd like to thank those who aren't mods, but still come here regularly to answer peoples questions, and get very little in return.
When all else fails, read the instructions.
