    iso file iregularity

i downloaded the 5 iso files for the linux RH8 installation set.
The images in total are around 3Gb, though in the fwindows - it shows a total of around a few MB.

the files took a long time to download at a reasonable speed, which inplies they are of the size stated on the website. So why does windows report them of a size 100 times less than they are.

is it anything to do withem being image files? I ran the MD5 check on them and it doesnt compare with md5 checksum on the webste for the file, but surely every download couldnt be corrupted or damaged?

If the checksums don't match then I would suspect a bad download and try to re-download from a different mirror.

i've tried several, and they usually screw up big files. if you know of a good one, please point it out.

ive tried sites from different mirrors, none of the files are the correct size, though it took around 6 hours to download at 500kbs, which makes me think it is the correct size, all the md5 checksums differ from site to site!

has anyone ever had any probs with linuxiso.org?

I've never had a problem with linuxiso.org or any other site that hosts any Linux ISO files. I'm not real sure what your problem might be.

linuxiso.org doesnt host anything, they link to mirrors(the site thats hosting the files)

you only need the first 3 cd's for redhat. (the first 2 if you're stingy).

try cuteftp (its shareware version). it worked fine for me. i suggest looking in redhat.com for mirrors, and test around to find the fastest one. (unless you're on dial-up... in which case all of them are probably similar).

ive tried redhat and slackware now from different mirrors, so making the reasonable assumption that not every version of linux on five different mirrors can be corrupt - i guess the problem lies at my end. I have a dsl connection at 500kbps and the file takes hours to download and i have seen the counter for the file size increase to 500Mb yet windows doesnt seem to think it is, burning the iso informs me the size is 10Mb. this is driving me mad!!!! I am downloading all the data, but it reduces by a factor of 10 - where is it going!!!! Ive tried turning off the firewall, ftp server and everything that may have an effect.
