B-but...command lines are scary.
wtf are these things that you speak of?
guns dont kill people, abortion clinics kill people.
Desktop environments for linux.

kde is the best IMO, just check out their site, the professional level supersets that of gnome
i thought there should be more explaination on that, too... not everyone here should be experienced in linux to post here.Originally posted by dP munky

linux has a way of customizing desktops. XFree86 is linux's way of displaying graphics, and Gnome/KDE both are ways to make XFree86 look pretty and work well.
i prefer gnome for its relative simplicity. with the improvement of nautalus and the redhat package manager, i think gnome is a better choice. in kde, every other time the opening sound byte plays it cuts off in mid speech.
GNOME, preferably the new version 2
i like them both.
Ive used kde at home for a while, but I am not currently running linux anymore . I used gnome at school, I like them both. You should be able to install both, and when you login you choose which one you would like to use during that session. That way you can test out both, and use the one you prefer.

i believe you can install both and do that if you want... you just need to initialize XFree86 with specific commands like gnome-session or the kde equivalent.
I'd say fluxbox, It's great!
KDE for me
No I DIDN'T steal my name from Misro$ofts OS, it's pure coincidence.
The lines around my name (-) are only there because i needed a name over the 3 character minimum letter limit
i like kde, but whats better about it opposed to gnome?i just use it because thats what i always use.
I started out with KDE, then tried GNOME, afterwards WindowMaker and Fluxbox (blackbox) and finally Afterstep. This last one is absolutely the best (totally configurable, easy, yet fun and makes your desktop look really really c00l). Really, If you haveng tried it, its a MUST.
Gooooooooooooo afterstep
