However there is always the "hey what's that!" strategy in which you nonchalantly flip the board while the other person turns his/her head. If all else fails beat them to death with their rooke
Not possible in internet chess, although there's always the "Oops, I'm sorry, dang AOL! Got disconnected there, guess we gotta start over!"

I don't play chess, but what would happen if you mirrored their strategy? What if you mirrored every single move they made? I suppose if they went first, you'd lose.

    >>mirror moves

it'd be one long game....plus it's impossible because what happens when they take a peice of yours? You can't mirror that...but ti's a cool thought nontheless.

The petroff defense can start out by mirroring, but you can only take it to a point because checking will always break the symmetry.

I tend to favor the Nimzowitsch-Larsen attack when I'm playing white. The first two moves are b3, bishop b2. It gives me immediate control of the diagonal, which often puts my opponent off balance.

Copying the other player for longer than 5 moves or so is a bad idea, since white will always come out stronger since its his move.
