    I am totally ENTP
    ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their often-impressive skills. They tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. They sometimes confuse, even inadvertently hurt, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport.
    I pick on my friends ALL the time, seriously. They get ........ed at me constantly. I'm entp all the way baby

    then, as suddenly as it came to me, my energy disappears. i begin putting off working on my project and eventually have a hard time getting back to it. this happens with everything i do. i wanted to be a writer at one time, and managed to write a few short stories. i began a novel and got about 30-40 pages into it and lost all interest.

    i guess what im getting at is, does anyone here suffer from this problem? and if so, do you know of any way to cope with it? I have heard that it has to do with my personality type (INTP for those familiar with meyers-briggs personality types). its frankly ruining my life and keeping me from doing anything worthwhile...[
    Well its normal to lose interest in things over time. I myself have had many projects go nowhere - sometimes it is due to poor planning, other times its due to other more pressing duties, sometimes I genuinely tire of what it is I'm doing. I wouldn't consider this an area of concern, unless you are not doing this with everything in your life (or in the major areas, such as study, relationships, work). The Road Less Travelled M. Scott Peck is a very good read and has some interesting insights into the issue of discipline (there is a chapter on why we procrastinate). Often the reason for it is the last that you would ever suspect.

    BTW I believe personality types are a myth (i.e. - that our personalities are dynamic and change with our environment). I could fit myself into several of the Myers Briggs categories.

    well i have solved my problem. or, not solved it, but pinpointed it.

    after doing some research and a few discussions i have learned that i have ADD. my parents had me diagnosed when i was younger but decided not to put me on any medication thinking i would outgrow and/or learn to control it. we have never discussed it since then until recently.

    i never suspected this partly because of my own personal confusion over the definition of ADD. i always thought it meant the person doesnt feel like he gets enough attention and does things to attract it, but it really means the person does not have enough attention to give to the things he does (i.e. short attention span).

    it at least makes me feel better to know what it is causing all of this. i still dont know what to do about it though...
    I came up with a cool phrase to put down here, but i forgot it...

    That's the problem with those personality pages, I always find three or four that match me almost exactly. It appears that I'm ENTP, INTP, and ISTP.
    An interesting read though.

    [snip]<

    I have that all of the time too, and I hate it. Anyway, it's one of the several traits of ADHD. I'm not saying you have it, but you might want to look into ADHD. You could live happier if it turns out that you do indeed have it, then seek treatment.

    Well, like I said in my earlier post, I took my original test a few years ago, and it gave me an INTJ.

    I just took this test, and I'm still an INTJ, which suprised me a bit 'cos I thought I'd changed over time. Guess not....

    Why don't you lot who are guessing your personalities give the test a go and see it's it comes out correct too. There's more test sites give at the bottom of this page.
    When all else fails, read the instructions.

    Well a lot of people are misdiagnosed as ADD or ADHD. I would recommend seeing a couple of doctor's to confirm this. Not that I doubt your parents, but it's always best to make sure of such things. As you said "I still don't know what to do about it" - speak to a couple of doctors and find out.

    Good luck!

    Interesting, it pegged me as an INFP, and the description was not far off....
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }

    as to me, just do it in "segments"

    create a "to do" list and go back to it once in a while.

    when you are in stress at times, go meditate or do some yoga or go out there and shoot some hoops.
    release that anger.

    then go back and do another percent of the work.

    if successful, better ideas hop into mind and then I have the urge to start the program all over with new ideas thus improving my programs (I soon want to patent some of these ideas).
    most of these programs of mine tend to be very customizable (I always have changes in interests and tastes so it suits me well.)

    Hmm...I didn't even see that post! Well, it looks like I could have been right?

    Stealth is right, however. You should get a second opinion.

    But I can tell you from experience that prescription medication can help tremendously. Not only does one of my friends have ADHD and takes Adderall for it, I do also. You should study all of the treatments, available, though. You might find one that better suits you. If you'd like to PM me and discuss all of this, I'd be happy to answer any questions and give you resources for learning more about the disorder.
