    *blink*

When a thread reaches this amount of posts, I begin to get worried.

Certain more apologetic posters on this thread have proposed that no one's logic or beliefs are flawed or wrong--just different. I take issue with this "moral relativism" because it corrupts society's understanding of nature.

Recently, someone has stated that there was not time for all the species of today to evolve from a theoretical ancestral single-celled organism. However, this tenet is widely held among the scientific community, and I feel the burden of proof should rest with the proposer. I would like to remind posters here that the single-celled organisms reproduced much faster than the more complex organisms most well known.

Several people feel that a lack of current knowledge about, for example, the origin of the universe proves the existance of God (or gods). Believe it or not, scientists have been diligently working on this problem, and I expect them to provide more creative solutions than an all-powerful being just making everything in a flash.

I would also like to state that not teaching evolution or giving "equal time" to "another 'scientific' theory" (creationism or intelligent design) is a supreme detriment to the education well being of students. There is plenty of evidence to support the theory of evolution, and it is generally accepted as fact that evolution has occurred. Do not duck out to the evangelical TV ministers and born-again grandmas: If not your education, maybe your son's or daughter's education will be at stake.

P.S.: I do not have much of a problem with children being taught religion at parachial schools, but the community's educational institutions should not be forced to teach religion to students who may be of a variety of religious beliefs. Disclaimer to parents: It is your fault if your children end up more ignorant and more subordinate because you indoctrinated them since birth.

Belief that human knowlege could prove the existance of
god only if that god really exists.
Lack of disproof does not constitute proof, no matter how many times you present this argument. Anyway, what else do humans have other than human knowledge? I'll ask again - Can you prove that god exists?

Does love exist as an independent entity (aka cupid)? You're confusing emotions with things that exist outside the human brain (aka religon).

What else? If you don't believe in god nothing.

Now I have a question. In gilgamesh (I've already posted the
link) Gilgamesh dispairs his eventual death and final
resting place in the land of the dead. What dispair, I cannot imagine, is to truly believe this life does not continue?

Did you live before you were born? Did you miss it? You wont miss it when you're dead either. It's probably just your survival instinct playing tricks on you.

You are assuming that the universe did begin. Who's to say that it hasn't existed for an infinite period of time? You are just used to things with beginnings and ends, as most probably everything you've ever encountered has a beginning and an end. You need to 'look outside of the box'.
The universe cannot be eternal. if it was eternal there would be no kenetic energy left. even in an event where there could be multiple replenishments of kenetic energy, with an eternity before it to use this energy, that to would be gone. The universe then would still exist but would be quite unihabitable.

We know that there is finite amount of energy because the universe is expanding. this implies that once all the possible energy was contracted into the tightest space possible, that space had a counter-effect, thrusting everything in the opposite direction. This theoretically could happen many times. the expansion and contraction of energies, but eventually the kenetic energy would wear out. thus the universe cannot, according to our logic, be eternal. However, there may be factors on this subject I'm not aware of. and my thinking may be scientificaly flawed. however, this, or a another theory close to it shows the improbability of an infinite Universe.
Then according to you "law" of logic, this probability is what we must abide by, that or throw away our logic for our beliefs.
if a contradiction was contradicted would that contradition contradict the origional crontradiction?

So as I mentioned in my last post, the person siding with science is contradicting science.
Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
Matter can not be created nor destroyed.
    - Albert Einstein.

    Sounds eternal to me.

I'm posting this sparate because it's a completely separate thought.

A few things to think about:

    - People often have "near-death experiences" and things like that, but when was the last time you heard of a "near-ceasing-to-exist experience"?

    - This thread has been on here for weeks. Have you considered just praying about it?

hence why I always refered to kenetic energy, as apposed to potential energy. Kenetic energy is not eternal.

Well there is some reason for us being here, and I'll wager it's a lot more simplier than what people want it to be. I say, crack open a beer, sit back and relax. You can't control the universe, and don't try to. If there is a God, well that's fantastic, but if not then so what? Just be a good person - help other people and help yourself - and enjoy life.

Matter/energy can be converted back and forth and into different
forms, but neither can be created from nothing nor destroyed. E=mc^2 gives the relationship.

Satisfaction in a hopless situation. Great.

Hope is pointless - what do you hope for that things will all change for you? That you will be in a different situation? Hoping for change achieves nothing. Most of the time people are never satisfied with where they are - they think "if I was doing this or had this I'd be happy" but that just adds to their misery and suffering. The more you sit around hoping, the further away you are from reality. You aren't dealing with the situation, you are fantasising about something else. The problems you have don't get solved through hoping, only through action. And the only way to act is in the here and the now.

Satisfaction is only gained if you chose to be satisfied. It is desire that makes you unsatisfied. Can I find satisfaction where there is no hope? Well if you do not hope or desire then you can be.
