    FLASH Actionscript!!!!!

I am new to this language >>>HENCE<<<< the reason why I am new to this board. I just want to say that the few days I have spent here have been very informative to me and I have really learned a lot by just reading the posts to questions/anwsers from all of you!!..Ok now everyone take a bow.....the reason for THIS thread is the fact that I have noticed how similar C is to FLASH Actionscript and I was wondering if anyone can reccomend a good book on Actionscript. I really don't know if they exsist and that is my main reason for asking. Believe me I have tried to find one. I would greatly appreciate any input ....THANKS A LOT.

I was at B & N today. Every book on learning Flash 5
has something about Action script in it. Also O'Reilly
has printed a whole book devoted to Action script,
its command set and examples. You should be able
to find something at barnesandnoble.com. Flash 5
looks to be an awsome program with plenty of
resources for learning it. I bought Flash 5 Training
from the Source, a beginners book that teaches
you how to build a web page from start to finish,
and it also includes much about Action script.
Macromedia's web site also has links to user sites
with a format similar to Cprogramming.com's, message board and all.

    Thanks!!!

Thanks for the Reply. I have a few books on FLASH 5 but none of them seemed to devote much effort to the Actionscript aspect of the program. The book you mentioned that is written about Actionscript is exactly what I am looking for.

    Thank Again.

My pleasure. Every book on Flash 5 I've skimmed
through had what I thought was an ample
amount of space devoted to Action Script. What
I'm thinking is that with version 5 Action Script
is coming on strong because of the overall
popularity and ease of use of the program. There's
a slew of Flash 5 sites and message boards popping up
all over the place. It's really a beautiful program with
an abundance of learning resources. I'm finished
with Chapter 3 of my Flash 5 newbie book, and I
can tell you this much already: it's a damnned site
easier to learn than C++ (quicky ducks to avoid thrown
    objects).

Arrow Flash, something else that belongs ON THE INTERNET

NEXT, flash... BEST DAMN WEBSITE CREATION THING EVER TO COME AROUND.

C/C++ BEST DAMN ANYTHING ON COMPTERS TO COME AROUND.

Its easyer to learn, all the world is done for you in C++. Please everyone do nor forget about these things.

I started C++ a few months ago and pretty much mastered it (I use that lightly) in about 2 months. I know a good amount of API's and methods of doing things. Most of this derives from my abuility to think for myself.I'm more like , then . This has gotton far. Please, since then I have whatches a lot of people on this board learn more and more. BUT a lot of people lately have been turning to web languages and "Easy Eays to get results". People lets not all melt into kiddies.

~Just to say the only one ive seen stick to C++, and he has achieved great heights with it, is -KEN-. (AND me!!)

P.S. Theres something else I mean to say, if you are inventive you cna do things on ur own in Flash Too! Just about anything, but you have to have that good spirit to do it, I was makking full action games and stuff in Flash when I was learning it, and my friend was still working with how to switch frames (we started @ the same time). Its more about innovation than having a powerfull language, or an API that can do everything for you.

I don't know about the coding part but you've got trolling mastered for sure.

    Talking yah

I never called myself a master. But I seem to have learned a lot more than many others in my time. I can do dynamic... anything, dlls, winsock, some DX8, OpenGL, ANSI (of course), Console, 13h, I know the C stdio and the C++ iostream. I can do WinAPI and DOS API. I hav'nt ventured from Microsoft, but I think I am pretty good @ it. Ask me anything, im not a newbie. please dont judje me based on age or how long i've been doing this, k?

    flash book

Run and get ActionScript- the Definitive Guide
    by Colin Moock,
    O'Reilly Publishers.
Steep for 'ginners like us but it is way
    tres cool.
First I bought SAMS Flash5 in 24 hours which
sorely tried me, then Colin's opus. Had to relearn but the point isthat you might need
(like me) some training wheel-type book before ASDG and afterwards some solvent to unglue your fingers from it. I trimmed the edges so it wouldn't get wildly dog-eared on me.
    Good luck!

Hey Ross, do you have any experience with Macromedia
Flash 5-Training from the Source, by Chrissy Rey? I need
help. I'm stuck on page 138, where you're supposed to insert
some action script. I can't get the program to list the proper
    syntax. TIA. Anyone.

    Rick,
this is also in Colin's book:
    chattyfigleaf.com
get on their flashnewbie mail thing. Lots of dialog about that.
    Good luck!

Yeah, I've been getting it for some time now. I feel like I'm
a part of Frieda Vanover, or whatever her name is.

It's pretty cool that Chrissy Rey shows up there, too. Shows
what a top notch site it is imo. Anyway, I found the problem
on my own, accidentally. I just wasn't highlighting the the
buttons properly before I activated the action script. (so proud
of meself). All my lessons are right on up to neptune29.fla.
Mailing lists are a pita, though. When I open my mail now, there's
    100 messages waiting .

Pretty soon I'll change my present web page to a flash movie
based on the book. Waaay coool.

    Thanks for responding.
