    Riven

I installed Riven onto my 1.4Ghz AMD and Win2k. The game itself didn't work, it was meant for Win95, but I was able to uninstall it. Anyway the video worked. Well the accelerator kind of mess up the video slightly, but it worked good enough. It was a 10 minute documentary on the making of the game.

There were originally 12 programmers and they started out in a garage. Looked really cramped. Eventually they were abe to put up their own building. Acutally their building looked cool. Something out of a fantasy novel.

They eventually had something like 20+ programmers working on the game, also a lot of designers, artists, engineers, etc. They spent 4 years on the game.

I didn't get to play the game. It was completed in 1997! Looked very cool. Good graphics in the video. I can just imagine what games look like now. I plan on getting X-Box before Christmas. Watched a few videos at www.xbox.com

Anyway, if someone was going to put together a team to make a game for any of these systems than they are looking at several years work for at least 12 - 15 people. I imagine that it would be difficult to get on one of these teams. If I ever planned to be involved in one of these projects it would take about a decade or more to come up with the 2-3 million to make this possible. It may be something to ultimately look forward too but not for a hell of a long time. These games are very complex. Looked like a lot of fun though. They designed artwork, clay models of the gameworld, thousands of man hours.

You should get a Gamecube instead of an Xbox...

Why is that? I want the North American system. X-Box is the only North American console.

Why not get both, and enjoy the best that both systems have to offer.

If I bought both systems than I would never get anything done. My whole life would be playing video games.

Because everybody doesn't have $500 to spend?

I'm getting a GameCube. I'll eventually get an
Xbox, but not for a while. Puh, I still need to
get another Gameboy Advance for DOOM.

Ah, remember the good ol' days when companies
would include a console, 2 controllers, and a
game? Now, you're lucky if you get a demo-disc.
    (Something Sony didn't even include)

Oh, also, Sonic Team is developing for GameCube.
That means PSO, baby. One of the greatest console
    games ever created.

Well, surely after the initial cost of buying two consoles, you wouldn't overspend on buying games, surely you'd buy about the same number just distributed between the two systems and play whichever when you felt like it rather than it eating your life.

Good plan. I'd write a book, but I'm not creative.
I'm trying to save up for school, but things
aren't going too well. So since I can't write,
and I probably won't be able to attend college--
    games it is...

Games are beautiful. They're an escape from
reality. Sometimes you need an escape. I think
that's why people read, watch film, paint, etc.
It's an escape. Eh, whatever. I'm rambling...

    Damn true.....

This reminds me of a conversation with a freind who was going through a bad patch. She had no interests or hobbies appart from day to day life.....Hard to believe, but knowing her I'd say it was largely true. I, myself have to have a few things to occupy myself away from day to day life otherwise I would go mad.

I start a full time job at the end of the month doing security and also go to college part time. I can mostly study while doing the security, at least on a couple of the days. Apparently there are some days when it is completely dead. I'm going to work graveyard shift.

I can't enjoy a game unless I accomplish something in terms of life responsibilities because they feed all this junk into your head about being responsible, working hard, etc. Yes and I intend to write this book for sure within one years time. I'm putting up the website and I'll post my progress as well as insights into the novel. I just recently decided to lean towards fantasy. I've been back and forth with this because I'm also a horror fan.

It would be nice to be able to write books and computer games based on them. A person needs a lot of money in order to finance a game company. Somewhere in the 2 million dollar range. I happen to have some access to money, maybe half a million or so, but I'd have to know exactly what I was doing. It's a huge investment. I'd rather try to write a novel or two first.

I'm a he not a she, but otherwise that would seem to describe me! I find my "day to day" life fills all available time these days!!!

Surely then, these things are part of your day to day life?

No. What I was getting when I mentioned day to day is getting up, going to work just to pay the rent, going home, going to bed. This is day to day for many people. Having an interest such as sport, coding, reading or even stamp collecting is something that people do as an extra to the things they must do.
