My Philosophy (stolen from someone else):

The opinions that are held with passion are always
those for which no good ground exists; indeed
passion is the measure of the holder's lack of
    rational conviction.

Yeah, I wish. You over-estimate me. I'm not smart,
    and I don't have a well-adjusted mind. I'd like
to be smart, but I don't know where to start. I
    don't know what to read.

    Errr, I meant Bertrand Russell.

    >>> I'd like to be smart,

The problem with "I wish I was obdiblog", type things is the definition of "obdiblog". Once you have a clearer goal, it is easier to work out a path towards it, or indeed, what to read.

What is your defintion of "smart"?

Just to respond to Bertrand here (in other words, nothing against you Static) this doesn't make sense.

If someone is passionate about something, that something is irrational? In context he may define his terms in such a way that this is true- but on its own it is foolishness.

I'm pretty passionate about a lot of things, and I became passionate about them as my rational convictions convinced me that they were important.

A quick example-- I'm pretty passionate that crime is bad and criminals should be hindered in their activities. This passion is built upon rational convictions in regards to, among other things, the existence of right and wrong, the right of citizens to live peaceful lives, the need for consequences to wrong actions, personal responsibility, etc.

Your philosophy lacks logic. Just because something is
Microsoft, it doesn't have to be stupid ( see Win2K )
and just because something is GPL'd it doesn't have
to be good. I could GPL the worst code you've
ever seen. Just because it's public doesn't mean it's good.

exactly - open-sourcers are blind in there beliefs. "MS is bad because they charge for it, but open source like linux is good because it costs nothing and you get to see how it works"

it's not the best philosophy I've ever heard.

    My philosophy?

    Like static's, it's stolen:

But how could I deny that I possess these hands and this body, and withal escape being classed with persons in a state of insanity, whose brains are so disordered and clouded by dark bilious vapors as to cause them pertinaciously to assert that they are monarchs when they are in the greatest poverty; or clothed [in gold] and purple when destitute of any covering; or that their head is made of clay, their body of glass, or that they are gourds? I should certainly be not less insane than they, were I to regulate my procedure according to examples so extravagant.
