    Scariness!!

1st case of anthrax - Miami; 45 mins from where I live

2nd case of anthrax - Boca Raton; my city.

This is scary! why would anyone target Florida?? Or my City???
I mean, I'm not SURE that this is terrorism, but given what's happening recently, and that fact that it's the inhalable form of anthrax...scary stuff, guys!

Is this some kind of joke. Florida is known for being the dumbest place in the entire world! This would be the first place the infidels would strike.

i just composed a reply to this and then my cable went down so i am now on a very slow modem connection.

I dont think you should worry too much about the outbreak of anthrax. As Bacillus anthracis still does exist in nature in the western world - every now and again it does appear. For example there have been 4 cases in teh UK since 1990, though i think the last fatal case in teh US was in the late 70s. The organism itself lives in hoofed animals such as cattle and even though it is rare in west europe and the US it is likely to be found in cattle in south/central america. People who work in slaughter houses etc have always been at a high risk of contracting the disease.

Its more than probable that this occuring now is a coincidence. However a private individual could always use anthrax as a form of poison - thats all you would need is some contaminated meat for example. Also the symptoms of respiratory anthrax show within two days of exposure so if this was widespread a lot more people would have shown symptoms by now. (I have a bit of a hobby for forensic pathology and anthropology - fallback to my university days i am afraid). (thre have been some very interesting cases in the US for example of deliberate thallium poisoning which is very hard to detect as it does not show up on normal blood analysis)

Dean, you're such a jerkoff. Everyone's seen canadian bacon, right? so he has no right to talk about the dumbest place on Earth. Can't badmouth a place you've never been...just because some old democrats found ways to ***** about losing the election by no means makes Florida a stupid place. I detect jelousy...there it's probably freezing - here it's in the 70s still.

Yeah, I understand that it comes from animals, but we haven't had a case since the 70s, and all of a sudden we have 2 within a 45-minute drive of eachother after major terrorist attacks...that's some coincidence. (not to mention the lack of hoofed animals here)

Apparently they found it in the building where both of those guys worked. They are asking all the employees to get medical attention.

I'm still waiting to see if there is connection to the terrorists who took flight training right in that area of Florida.

    You bet it is scary.

Now that we are attacking Afghanistan, I would imagine we are going to see some reprisals in the U.S.

I was watching Mclaughlin Group this week-end and they had Pat Buchannan on their. Now I don't like him very much, but he did make a very good point.

Our borders are so completely porous that any terrorist organization that doesn't have operatives in the U.S. should be considered completely imcompetent.

I wish that the USA would increase security so that we don't have these killer packies come into Canada.

Also it is no coincience. This is the second case of Anthrax involving people who worked in the very same building not one mile away from the flight training center that the killer packies frequented.

BTW it is not cold here. It's just perfect. It gets cold for 3-4 months starting around December. Lately due to global warming we have had very warm winters, only 1 month being cold. The Florida people are likely dying of heat exhastion.

heat exhaustion? ha! 70 is getting on the colder side, down here...last time I got heat exhastion (heat stroke, same diff) It was in the summer and I was jogging my dog 3 miles - it was about 100 out, I believe...course this was the middle of the day...yes, I AM a moron...but it didn't seem hot til I got through about a mile

Yeah, want to hear something scary? the people they found in Fl were in Delray, and were pretty much right around the corner from my friend's house.

Yeah, I don't have anthrax, I don't think...I think I'm just fine. If I contract I'll post it on the board, don't worry... (what? I post for so long and never say bye? ) Ok, knock on wood *BAMBAMBAM!*

Seeing as it's an airbourne version of anthrax, multiple cases are that much more likely as its able to spread more easily, especially since its got to someones office, which if I remember my Florida holidays is likely to have air conditioning.

Since large parts of Florida are warm, sunny and full of nutrient and moisture rich swampy areas bacteria will thrive quite well. It's probably just a natural outbreak.

Even though, quite scary, keep safe, but sensibly so, since there's no point having a gas mask, or whatever, if no-ones put in place anything to tell you when to use it.
Lead me not into temptation... I can find it myself.

Apparently it may have been sent to that office in the mail through the means of an infected envelope.

Maybe they were slaughtering cows during a pegan ritual in that Sun building where the person got anthrax?

I'm guessing this is a job-related hit. Somebody targeted one
or both of those guys because they were tabloid reporters
who were investigating someone or something that didn't
want them investigating. I'd be shocked and horrified if
    Osama's terrorists are behind this.
