    So I'm a troll now?

I never intended to "troll" this forum. I came here to ask a question about the C programming language and how it compared to Java in ease of use for beginners. The discussion naturally gravitated towards learning languages, books, and things like that. I did not want to initiate some "which language is best" flame war or anything like that. I chose to post here because this looked like a newbie-friendly community. I guess I was wrong. Yes, I know a couple of my comments were not entirely serious. However, those comments were made in posts and threads that were entirely serious and relavent to this forum. Sometimes I make a joke of myself, and particularly jokes about my intelligence. I don't know how that could offend anyone. I think its pretty ridiculous how I am all of a sudden labelled a troll now. I did not know why that thread was deleted. So I did the natural thing and asked why. What do you expect? All I wanted to know was why. I know that moderators are ultimately the ones who make all decisions on any forum, but I was simply curious as to why a thread was deleted. Was it something I said? Was it something someone else said? Am I at fault? Did something happen? Aren't I at least entitled to some sort of explanation? If it wasn't my fault, couldn't have someone at least told me that? So I make a post inquiring as to why this happened and here is what I get from <a href="http://cboard.cprogramming.com/showthread.php?threadid=27038"that thread</a>:

This board is for C programming specific questions. This isn't for "Is this a good book?", "What's the best language?", "Does this make me look fat?" posts. "What langauge is best" posts are just inviting flame wars, and this board is generally has better uses than to feed the trolls.

    Quzah.
    And this:
I believe the thread was deleted for the reasons quzah gave

Also this thread has no purpose but to end in a flame war

    Therefore CLOSED
What kind of community is this? I'm sorry if I am not an experienced programmer. What type of newbie would you welcome here?
    "Not dumb one's like you."
    Right?

I wish I had specific questions to ask about C. I wish I was that far along to ask that. Unfortunately, I don't.

This thread will probably deleted or closed too. So I don't know what the point is. If you people are going to be like this, why don't you just require an IQ test before you allow people to post.

If you have a problem like this, PM a mod. You'll need to register first. That way, if a thread is deleted, you're more likely to get a PM telling you why too.

CorJava made some valid points though. Instead of starting to flame the newcomers, why not report the thread to a mod so they can move it and do their job?

And no, you're not a troll. Yet

Like that new avatar, Hammer. I think I'll start using fflush(stdin) again

It does seem easy to offend someone here.

Sometimes it seems everybody is on 'the edge'

I dont believe most people think 'newbies' are thick, just that certain people have less patience.

Lots of help is available-just ask. Look at the encouraging replies you have got. Persevere-I had to. Now everybody knows MY name.

    Maybe not good mind you!

Fountain, you are right in that many people did post some encouraging and helpful replies to me. My first post on the C board did get some very informative and helpful replies. I did not mean for my complaint to be an over generalization of the people on this forum. It did look like that though. But I will say that I do acknowledge that I have been helped here.

Thanks for the advice Hammer. That seems like it would be the best thing to do.

And thanks for the support Cshot.

I have no idea what Troll King said or is saying. Does someone mind telling me what is going on? What is this controversy? Yeah, I get the thing about him not liking MS, but what just happened? Did the post get edited? What does that mean?

I didnt see what he said but I can assure that it was junk. One of the other Mods probably edited it out because he was acting the idiot. Spam more than likely. He's on a spam binge right now (though its over currently...)

CorJava, Troll King is a our resident troll, and you'll just have to learn how to read/ignore what he posts. Yes, I edited his post (and deleted a few others), because it wasn't on topic with the thread. Don't worry, this doesn't happen all the time.

Stick around, you'll get good help and advice here, there are quite a few smart people about.

Like I said before, if you want to ask any questions about the board and rules etc, PM a mod (I'm one, and the full list is here).

Thanks for the background information. I did not mean to be nosey, but I was just wondering what the heck was going on. On every thread all of this stuff was happening with Troll King, and I did not know if the first deletion was due to something I said, some flamewar in which Troll King was involved. Anyway, that's why I wanted to know.

I'm sure I would get some good help and advice. I believe there are many intelligent people here. And people have helped me here, but now I'm pretty sure this isn't the right place for me. Not only because I'm not trying C at this particular point in time, but we both know there are many here who don't like me, and that's not going to change. I've offended too many people. I would still say this is a good forum though. But I think its quite obvious its not the right place for me. I just wish this stuff would not have happened.

    CorJava -
I like to think that these boards are a very friendly place to newbies etc. The mods and I work very hard to make it so. I, along with the other mods, also maintain an open door policy. Feel free to PM me at any time if you have trouble, including if a thread is deleted etc.

Much like Hammer said, I strongly encourage you register, that way you will usually be PMed when something is deleted and you can PM us.

If you havce any trouble PM me, heh
