Thread: Google

    Post Google

I would like to start a petition to make it against the rules of cprogramming.com to respond to a post with the text:

"www.google.com" in this or any other form.

I am starting this petition because it is not a plausable response nor does it have any pertinance to the subject of any topic unless it is asking what the url to google is.

Please sign and lift us of this burden of google spam!!!

    ps. LONG LIVE GOOGLE!!!!!

Yes it does. When you respond with "www.google.ca", that's basically saying STFW (Search the ******* web), rather, the answer can easily be found in a search... and the author didn't need to post the question.

I agree with unanimous on this one.

I think it is a little bit rude to use a "google" answer. Another alternative is to simply ignore the post. If the poster bumps up the thread, then we can start the flames or provide the google answer. This way our members won't appear to be rude, the original poster will follow the rules, and he will end up finding his answer on google or this board.

Since he won't get an instant response, hopefully he might get bored and end up stumbling on our search features or even better, find the rules and faq page.

Or maybe someone will provide an insightful answer and everyone who reads the thread will learn from it.

    In the end, everyone wins.

    >> and the author didn't need to post the question.
Too late, the question has already been posted at this point.

    >> STFW (Search the ******* web)
No comment. Since I've broken all the rules in one single post on the sticky

The googles response is one alot of forum goers use. And why? Simple! If the poster is going to take the lack of initiative to seach for the answer, then why take the initiative to feed him/her the answer when u can jus say "www.googles.com" and we done with it.

    Ditto on STFW!!

What if you did a google search, and checked the first few results, and say that they were good. Would you then go and put the links to those particular websites, or would you post a link to the search performed at google?

www.google.ca might have an answer to this.

Well in theory, you can get all your answers on google. But then again, what purpose would this board serve?

Well im not saying to answer everything with google, but certain things such as algorithims, or theory. Those things you can find, but you can get some opinions on stuff like that here too.

    Whatever tickles your fancy.

Well after reading the original post again, I think it'd be a bad idea to make google replies against the rules.

Google replies that are meant to be helpful are fine. However, I get really annoyed at the ones whose only purpose seem to be flaming the original poster regardless of whether they deserve it or not. More often than not, these sort of replies end up turning the thread into an unnecessary flame wars. But that's another topic.

We can certainly expect more of these dumb questions will come in. I'll just continue answering the questions as if they were asking them to me in person. This way, they'll get their questions answered, learn how to ask questions properly the next time, and hopefully gain a new member to our community. That's just my point of view. However if anyone wants to deal with them a different way, that's your choice.

Hey, stop hitting bellow the belt. Just because Homer said its Mini America, doesnt mean it is. hehe. Besides I cant go to goole.com, it automatically redirects me to google.ca

//Edit: It doesnt redirect me anymore for some reason, maybe it was just IE.
