    Angry Blanket clemency!?

    Man! I had to hear good ole' Ryan on the news today stating how he very much wants to declare a blanket clemency! No! WTF!? I've been ........ed about the whole re-opening of clemency hearings for almost 140 of the 160 inmates on death-row; it's wrong! Some of these guys are in there for murdering 8 or 9 people! And now the governor is considering sentancing all of them to life in prison and abolishing capital punishment?? No!

    Gaaaah! Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong!? With elections coming up, Ryan just wants to be remembered for something other than the 'license for bribes' scandal he was involved in.

    I think I've already made my view on capital punishment clear...but let me show the other side of this specific event, the other side of the coin:

    Until a few years ago that state's death sentancing system was flawed, and several innocents were sentanced to death, some even were exucuted I think. These inmates that are really ebing looked at are ones who were sentanced before the change was made. That's the starting point of this. The Govenor, as I understand it, has said that he will consider blanket clemency, especially for those that were sentanced before the change was made, to correct this, and too look further into innocents getting sentanced.

    Well that's my opinion.....but I don't think that that's the primary reason the govenor's floating the idea around now. Though rumor's I've heard sau that he wouldn't be opposed to that.

    I heard him say it on the 9'oclock news!

    He said (rough translation), "I plan and look forward to ridding Illinois of the death penalty", something like that....

    Did he? Well good for him. (Yes I realize this's a one-liner)...I don't believe in the death penaly. Some of these views are expressed in "Tried of an adult," but it's late and I'm not going to retype that much.

    what is the difference between life in prison w/ no chance for parole and the death sentence?

    is dying in a cell at an older age better than being off'd immediately?

    what do life w/o parole prisoners offer to society other than a less bloody conscience for that society?

    Convicted innocents can be freed from imprisonment. Death is irreversable.

    And ask yourself this: What would you prefer? Being locked up in a hell hole for the rest of your life, or being executed instantly?

    I'd take death over imprisonment. Easy call. Capital Punishment is leniency.

    We already have prison overcrowding, imagine if u took out cap punishment.

    Capital punichment doesn't take enough people out of the prison system to put a dent in the over populated prisons. Over crowding is a horrible reason.

    "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

    Think about it. You want to murder someone who murdered others. But, how does it make you any better for you are mudering someone. I think that capital punishment is one of the greatest forms of hypocracy. He killed someone and that's very bad, so let's kill him (which is just as bad!!!).

    Like Kermi3 said, captial punishment hardly takes people out. In many states, it's so rare that someone gets executed that it gets on the state news.

    Anyway, a cure to prison overcrowding is obviously booting out the non-violent drug offenders. That will get rid of 3/4 the prisoners right there.

    As for the original topic (well one of the original topics), I oppose the death penalty.

    To expand on what you said....

    The death penalty was reinstated in Illinois in 1977.
    Since then, 12 men have been executed... 13 have been exonerated (proven innocent)

    I really have begun to believe that perhaps we should abolish the death penalty, for here at least, it seems to flawed

    Man kills a girl. Girls family seeks death penalty, activists fight it and the jury rules him innocent, hes a free man.

    Free man kills activists daughter.

    Activist is enraged and shoots him, eye for an eye.

    The point is the opinion changes when its you is directly affected. Is the DP abused and flawed? YES, but that doens't mean its immoral.
