    Let's Get Something Straight

That Windows Programming Board is open for me to answer GTK+ Windows questions. Most of you have never known anything except for Microsoft, that's a shame, but this is the real world, and Windows programming occurs on many platforms, not just the one you have ever known. In a couple months I'll be building Windows applications for Gnome 2.0, and I think I'll be answering some Windows questions. If you don't like it than that's too bad.

The Windows board is for "the" Windows platform. If you look at the other boards in that section you will see DOS, for example, not "the specific DOS OS as produced by MS" just "DOS" - for most people, that is enough.

The Windows specific board is for questions relating to the Windows OS's produced by MS, as such, Gnome responses would not be appropriate.

Consider Dean, some newbie comes along and asks, (in the WINDOWS forum), how to move a Window, and get's two completely different answers, (regardless of the fact that your response may be correct for your current platform), is that going to help him? You and I have enough experience to know that there are other windowing OS's out there - s/he may not.

Windows programming is a generic term. If you want to create a Microsoft Windows programming board than be my guest.

No, Windows programming means "programming for Microsoft Windows".

No, it means programming Windows with a widget set or some other toolkit.

Please feel free to answer all the GTK+ Windows questions you like on the Windows discussion board, assuming that it is, people are posting such questions there.

Please feel to ask them there also, and I hope there will be lots of people to answer them for you.

I suspect you just want to flame MS Windows. Why don't you just say so?

I'll be answering all the Windows questions with GTK+, I know this already, but thanks anyway. What toolkit do you use?

I generally use Borland VCL. Why is that a problem for you?

    >>> Windows programming is a generic term.

"Windows" are certainly a generic concept. Nobody is disagreeing with that, however, the Windows board is under the "Platform specific" heading.

True, Gnome, (mosaic, DECWindows etc. etc.), is/are a windowing platform, but it is not on the list of platforms which the webmaster has considered setting up a specific board for.

If GTK, (etc. etc.), questions appear on the Windows platform board, I would move them, (where is a good question, buut I don't recall it happening to date - so there is obviously not a great deal of confusion right now).

Any excuse for you to wave around a flag and shout from the rooftops that you use the platform flavor of the week, eh Dean? Get over it.

That may or may not be the case, however, it is unlikely that any of the people asking basic GUI questions on the Windows platform board would have done this. If they had, they would almost certainly not be asking simple GUI questions, and, as it is the Windows platform board, would either ask elsewhere, or make it quite clear what they are asking about to avoid answers assuming they were using the Win32 API.

It would be nice if Linux programmers didn't avoid this web site like the plauge. That's why I'm going to be building some Windows platform applications in GTK+ on Linux.
