I barely ever format, because unless you have Ghost it's a ***** to backup and restore things.
Re-Format my hhd? NEVER. My Win2000 box runs very well with no errors. There is really no need to re-format this bad boy.
speaking of which... what happens if you right click your hd on explorer, your primary, and format via windows? i never tried... but that's interesting...

I don't reformat unless there is a lot of junk programs intalled. There are ways to combat this because you can reformat a partition rather than the whole HD. Some virii require you to format your HD. It can happen.
I reformat once in a while.....
I like the clean start you get when you just have windows without the other crap. The only pain is the weeks to tweak things untill they are as they were before.
I just make sure that all my data and important stuff is kept in the right places and backed up regularly.

i hear ya... m$ products have all kinds of presets that annoying to programmers/powerusers... there should be a minimalist/expert option in the setup i say...
speaking of which, i'm typing this from my own room for once... i needed to make backups for the next unwarranted format... and, i know i've said this before... but i swear this time i'll keep it clean! no more multiple users damnit!
