    Attention Span

Though I'm not normally one to just post new threads just for the sake of it I have a question that maybe the boards could address.....

What's with the attention span on these boards? Or lack of it!

It seems to me that a thread cannot seem to hold its origanall intent for more than 5 posts. For example the post asking about member status and titles that after just a few posts ended up talking about diffrent color fonts! Or the New Moderators thread which I've had to remind people constantly to keep about nominations but still is wondering off on its own!

Now the real issue here is why are peas green? Why not red? (oh whoops is my mind wondering in strange ways too? sorry...back to topic...)

Is this something that's inherint to this community? Or is it because coders have an insanly short attention span? Or is it simply the nature of message boards?

Please someone clue me in before this thread wonders off into a insane direction that has nothing to do with the origanal topic of this post.

If you're new to the boards, welcome and reading this will help you get started.

    DUH!

I'd say people in general have a short attention span when it comes to messageboards.

By the way, peas should be blue, as everyone knows. (and that's how threads begin going south...)

Moderators are not very important, infact they threaten the freedom of this board. Almost all of the posts that occur in the general discussions board are between people who know each other. There might be some rioting but never anything too serious. The truth is that there does not need to be any moderators except for the webmaster and perhaps one other mod. Someone who is here on a regular basis.

In my opinion this board is doomed to fail because it does not accomodate advanced programmers except for Salem, but he just answers 'C' questions. This is fine for 'C' programmers who are mostly students but it is not realistic for students who have to be trained in OOP languages.

Having a .NET board would give life to this place. It would be a board where one could understand a multitude of subjects and it would also represent the high level needs of OOP programmers: SOAP, XML, C#, ASP.NET, VB.NET, etc.
    I compile code with:
    Visual Studio.NET beta2

I dunno - just seems that whenever people *do* make posts regarding the topic, they also throw in some snide remark that ticks someone else off (yay Microsoft!), and things progress from there. Also, what makes you think coders have short attention spans? Who else can you get to debug thousands of lines of... hey, a butterfly!

How do you propose that we "accomodate advanced programmers"?

it really depends... some of us have nothing better to do than to surf all day and this board takes up too many hours of our daily lives... it depends more on circumstance, the people, and i'm sure you'd all agree that we can't make a generalization on it as we might do in the conventional sense...
