    Attention span:
Well, short attention spans are obvious when the topic
of the thread is not too interesting and not too technical.
You will rarely see a C/C++ topic changing. And you will
rarely see a Win vs *nix, DirectX vs OpenGL or C vs C++
change, because these topics are hot. On the general
discussion board however, there are topics that are
used to chat and have some fun. And as every
conversation will change it's topic over time, these do,
    too.

The truth is that there does not need to be any
moderators except for the webmaster and perhaps one
other mod. Someone who is here on a regular basis.
Theoretically you are right. In practice, you need
at least two moderators online 24/7 to read all new
posts. And that is impossible with only 2 people.
I think 5 to 10 are quite right to do the job.
What I really like is the new "Report this post" feature.
And I don't think we actually did much moderating
on the old board. Mainly maintenance, deleting double
posts, closing or deleting threads that were meant as
replies, that kind of stuff. Since we've got moderators,
the number of insulting/abusive posts clearly dropped.
Not neccessarily because of the moderators actions,
    but because of their presence.

I have a theory about this whole..., what was I talking about?

    Oh ya, attention span.
As programmers we have to keep track of many different things at the same time while coding. (Multithreaded applications, pointers, references, stopping memory leaks, etc) I think our brains have been trained to think in several different directions at once. Hence discussions going off on a tangent at any given time.
I personally don't mind too much, I'm just worried for my health. Has there been any long term tests conducted on the side effects of caffine induced tangential thought processes?

Oh yea, back to the main topic, peas should be orange, oranges should be red and called blues.

    Hope I have helped

Okay, I've seen the double post phenomena, but this is just weird...
Moderator, could you please remove one of the posts above for me.
    Thanks

Do you ever wonder what fruit, from other planets, tastes
like? I mean, we all know about apples, oranges, *berries,
pineapples, peaches, pears and tomatos... But, what else
is out there? What tastes? What potential fruit-juices
    await us in other solar-systems?

    Woh, I just blew_my_mind...

    *berries
Jeez, you can tell we're dorks - * is a wildcard for anything, lol
    Dean's comment
Wow, talk about short attention spans... not only is it unattached to the original intent of the thread, it's unattached to anything discussed in the thread!

[steps back into the misdirected non-battlefield]

good point GovtCheez... funny though, i mean, *we* (not wildcards) all know that the * and ? are wildcards... (don't ever be confused when i type "?uestion" tho...)... but no one else on the planet would normally know what they were... well... so much for that...

i think our off topic offing is a good example for multiple indirection! what do you think!

So, I'm assuming I'm the only one who wonders what
fruit from other planets tastes like...

Nobody wonders about the simple things in space...

This planet is becoming boring. I want to see something
else. But, at the pace NASA is going, I don't think I'll
live to see that day. I mean, we haven't even been to the
    moon yet...

Come on NASA, the time for Warp-Speed is now. I don't
care how long fungi can live on a space shuttle orbiting
Earth. I don't care how many pull-ups John Glenn can do. I
want to see other planets. (And not Mars. Mars is so passe).

Eh, sorry for going Off-Topic, but it's just so
    aggravating!!

What, do you expect them to just throw a buncha people in a spaceship, point it at Alpha Centauri, and press a button?

For one thing, we can't find a red button suitably big, yet.

For another, as we've discussed in here before, gas prices suck once you leave Earth.

    i agree...

and Govt... your posts thing is 255... which makes me think that if the posts were only held in one byte, you'd get kicked back down to junior member... don't press reply!!!

    >(And not Mars. Mars is so passe).

gasp! that's it... that was the last straw... i've had enough of you morons picking on mars!!! *redirects mega cannon at earth* [read sig...]...

oh, and speaking of the prefix 'mega'... in ff8, where bauhamut has the megaflare, it's false advertising since the megaflare is *not* 1024^2 times as great as the spell flare... [reinstate sig...]... okay, well bye...

Well on the sun it is to hot to grow anything so all fruit comes from other planets. Mercury is mainly a pit stop and I have never eaten there. Venus fruit is pretty good but you have to go there to get it. Earth has the best fruit very sweet and tangy. Mars friut is so so and has realy nothing to offer. Juppiter's fruit is huge and I eat it when I am very hungry. (Sorry for lack of information)
