Actually I'm confused too..
From the programmers point of view we do
1) Study
2) Guess
3) Test
4) Verify Test Result then
5) Confirm & deside
Or I can say, this is the way a scientific minded person will decide.
But what about real life .. .. .. How should we decide.
If we want to find an ideal way (Theory) to decide .. ..

>How should we decide.
Since this is very personal, very much based on the background of a person (religion, country, culture), I don't think there is a general answer to it.
>If we want to find an ideal way (Theory) to decide .. ..
If there was a, mathematical based, theory to make decisions in real world, and if we would understand it, then we would always make the right decision. History shows in a lot of cases we, as well as individuals as groups, don't.
You need something to work for, a goal. Only a "closed system of beliefs" can define something as right and wrong, good and bad. The man-invented concept of math can define something as right or wrong, similarly can humanity define things as right and wrong, good or bad. It depends what system is in command. If there was a, mathematical based, theory to make decisions in real world, and if we would understand it, then we would always make the right decision.
Our goal is to convert more and more dead matter in the universe to something living.

if science can bring out a mathematical / logical solution for this problem:
and tt is scientifically proven that something IS THE right thing to do, will you go along with it even if you feel that it is not right?
or will you trust you own brain and conscience?
i think i will take a combination of both...
but anyway... i dont think science is going to be wrong (not way off anyway).
SCIENCE RULES! SO DOES MATHEMATICS!

The world isn't black and white.
At one time, I followed the guidance of a church in helping determine for me what is right and what is wrong, but then I realized that this was not in either my own best interest. Many of this church's moral judgments seem to have been set in stone from a different era when different conditions existed. Now, I find it better to reason for myself what is right and what is wrong.
I weigh a choice's effects on me and those close to me and on the populace at large. If there are positive results for me (or some other individual) and those directly affected with few if any negative results but neither positive nor negative results for the community, I consider the matter a personal choice and not wrong. If a choice that must be made has few if any positive results but certain negative results depending on the choice, I would find it difficult to fault a person in such a situation. I find, for example, a CEO's choice to increase his or her salary while laying off employees to be purely greed driven and morally wrong. Wrongs made by those with power are magnified by the increased effect they have.
In summary, let your conscience and rational thought let you determine what is right and what is wrong. They are there for a reason.
You like American Michael Jackson? The world isn't black and white.
There are only two choices right and wrong...
Only sometimes you don't know until you have chosen
one.
>There are only two choices right and wrong...
That depends on what the question is. Both choices may be wrong, both choices may be right.
I cannot think of it, how is it possible?
If everyone decides, which they feel right?
How will they feel the right thing.
I expected something new.. lots of vote on 3rd option.
The other.
Anyway.. there was another poll on
"What Americans Say?" What happened to that thread?
I saw, there was response.
Is there anything against the policy of cboard?

zahid,
I caught your thread early on and it seems that the short consensus was that your question/poll was both unclear and confusing in its nature, and that was from non-Americans, by the way.
I know what I inferred from your question, but it would be unfair of me to comment since I was unclear as to where you were headed with it as well...though I'm betting my assumption is correct.

If you break down a question enough, you can eventually get it to either right or wrong.
For example: should it just be the woman who decides about whether there should be an abortion?
1. A 15 years old girl was raped, and now the man doesn't want an abortion. Most people would answer "yes" (right) to the topic here, I think.
2. In a loving couple the woman has become pregnant. The woman wants to wait a couple of more years to become a mother, but the father thinks abortion is wrong. Most people would answer "no" (wrong) to the topic here, I think.
