    CD-RW Drives....

Hey im about to go out and buy a new burner to replace my old one, its a creative 6424 (6x4x24) I dont want to order one off the net because im impatient when waiting for new toys to arrive and the stores around here charge a lot for name brands like yamaha, or sony, or creative, I noticed that there is a Hi-Val 48x16x48x on sale for 49.99 and think thats a great deal. Ive bought Hi-Val CD-Rom drives before and have had no problem other than them being noisey. I dont want to go buy a burner and have it make more coasters than CD's, anyone else buy a Hi-Val CDRW drive, or have any warning or suggestions, the most im willing to spend is around 80 bucks and the lowest burn speed ill settle for is 40 :-p

I bought a burner about a month ago, and I got it for only $60 with a $30 mail in rebate. It was a Superior (<--brand name), it is a 24x12x40, and I have yet to get one coaster while having burned over 25 CDs. Basically there isn't a difference between my $60 ($30 after rebate) burner than the $120 Yamahas/Sony, except that mine is a Superior burner and I saved myself a lot of money.

Hope you're able to get as good of deal as I was able to.

How about the Sony 40x10x40 for $25 after rebates

    Another good place is www.techbargains.com
Most of them are online deals though but you can occasionally find in-store deals.

Hmm I have a Yamaha 16/10/40 that has always worked perfectly, it is no longer a speed demon but does its job, no buffer under run etc. I have never heard of superior

I have an Acer 40x12x48 and I've burned over 200 cd's with not a single coaste. It prevents buffer underruns with something caled justlink - very cool!!!
