    BYU video game.

Hey everybody! I said I was leaving a few weeks.... maybe months ago. And there was one guy that said, "you'll be back. They always are". Whoever that was - correct. I left mainly because I was out of ideas. Programming just wasn't really fun anymore. But I got an awesome idea this morning (and DavidP - you'll appreciate this. Everybody else - read up on all the Mormon jokes - the necesary ones are explained) - a BYU video game.

For me to explain this, you need to know the following jokes:

You might be a Mormon if:
You think Jello is a food group.

Molly Mormon is just a name for a perfect little mormon girl - kind of the Mormon version of calling people goody goods.

    BYU HATES U of U (and vice-versa)

At BYU, most people are single for only 3 months.

The Canon center makes REALLY bad food, and the rest of this you can catch on, I'm sure.

    So the BYU video game:

You enroll and all that, and you collect Jello Salad for points. You've got three hours to find "Molly", and you lose health everytime you eat at the Canon center. Inaddition to collecting Jello for points, you can also hurl Book of Mormons at U of U fans. The idea isn't really related to my question, but I think some of you would enjoy that (and I am Mormon, so it's not like I'm really making fun of anybody here... except U of U (University of Utah)).

My question is this: I want to learn how to do some graphics that go beyond typing out charcter by character what the screen looks like in DOS. I figured making an actual game that went beyond Pong, would help. So if anyone has any suggested libraries for doing this, or any tips, they'd be appreciated. Thanks. And welcome back to myself!

I'd suggest using Allegro, because if all you're really interested in is creating a simple (very little emphasis on simple) 2D games, then it would be perfect for you.

I'm going to leave you with a list of links that will greatly be able to help you out concering any API (I'm sure some of them you have already encountered, though).

    www.libsdl.org/index.php

    www.opengl.org

    www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.asp

    www.allegro.cc

    www.gamedev.net

    nehe.gamedev.net

    www.gametutorials.com

    www.cprogramming.com/tutorial.html

    www.cprogramming.com/boardfaq.html

Do some searches for Allegro and/or my name (TechWins) on the game programming board and you'll be able to find a lot of info about Allegro. You can click the link in my sig to go to my site; I have a little bit of Allegro info on there but you're best just going through my list of links.

    heh heh...

Face_master - I have to say, I really did think you were wrong.

Alright - I'll check it (Allegro) out - that's probably what I'll end up using.
