    updating websites

So I got this question from FYB's site...

How do you all update your websites, more specifically, like a "daily log" section or some equivalent? Do you edit the html and ftp it back up to the site? Or do you have a program that you wrote to just update that section? I've been wanting to write an "updater/ftp client" for sometime, but don't know enough about it.

On my site I just edit the html directly. I have written ASP admin pages and stored that stuff in a database before though. I just haven't gotten around to that on my page and I need to learn perl or php to do it on that server.

FYB is right, it's retarded to edit the html directly every time there's an update to the site. News items, annoucements, logs should be stored in a database, then retrieved via some type of script...

yep. don't let it run for too long... it slows down and freezes your computer. (at least in internet explorer, maybe in netscape too).
