    Yuck!

I assume you meant tobacco. I can't stand the stuff. If I cought my kid(s) smoking or otherwise using tobacco I'd beat the crap out of them (okay, not really, but he sure would be in trouble).

I'll admit I have a cigar every once in a while, but I don't inhale the smoke...it's only for the taste.

I used to smoke, for about 5 years, then I gave up. Nowadays, I really hate the smell of it, which is strange, because I used to love it sooo much at one point in my life

I used to steal cigarettes from a store near my house when I was like 13. I got caught with them and I felt so bad. My parents were ashamed of me, I was ashamed of myself. I've had a few since, but not in about 3 months (I'm 16 now). I think smoking is awful even though I enjoyed it while I did it. Both of my grandfathers died from it (one before I was even born). I look down on the idea of relying on drugs (which is kind of hypocritical because I drink coffee, but so far no one has proved that caffeine actually causes any serious damage). I've tried alcohol (even though that isn't the topic of this thread people seem to've mentioned it often) and I hated that too. I got sick and I vowed to never to it again (and I haven't yet). Strangely enough that experience made me determined to do well in school and stay 'good'.

    edit;
and as a side note I've NEVER tried pot I'm happy with myself for that. although pot is supposedly less bad than cigs.

I beg to differ, my short-sighted friend. Caffeine can kill you. There's been plenty of research on this.

Well hold your horses. I am not short sighted. Caffeine in terms of cups of coffee yields no harm (that I know of). On the other hand extremely concentrated dosages of caffeine in terms of pills, aka illegal drugs like (speed?) can kill you. But that is almost another topic, I mean technically too much of anything (except water) can kill you, right?

Except that 10 grams of water won't kill an adult. 10 grams of caffeine will.

I'm no drug expert, but AFAIK, speed isn't caffeine by any stretch of the imagination.

Oh yeah, and there's nothing wrong with caffeine pills - I take them every once in awhile - they make good pick-me-ups when I don't feel like drinking something to stay awake.

It looks like both of us are more or less correct:

    http://crystal.biol.csufresno.edu:80...cts97/113.html

There is no solid evidence that moderate caffeine consumption has links to indicate a risk factor for any type of cancer, cardiovascular disease or decreased fertility in women. In 1987 the FDA affirmed that caffeine, in moderate quantities, has no adverse effects in humans. However, studies have shown that caffeine can cause high blood pressure and increase heart rate.

You'll notice I said 10 GRAMS, not 10 MILLIGRAMS. To get 10 grams out of that, you'd have to drink about 147 cups of coffee before your body had a chance to dispose of it.

so that proves that drinking coffee can't harm you, right? that is basically what i"ve been trying to prove all along. I just said I didn't know where you got the 10grams from (what source). I mean did somebody take a person and say "See how much caffeine it takes to kill you" and they figured that 10 grams was it? I don't think you are wrong

Yeah, that's probably it. They just kept feeding people more and more until they keeled over and died.

I edited my post with a source - it's the first thing google turned up.

Coffee can't really harm you (unless you try to open a cup while you're driving holding it between your legs), but caffeine can. That's not gonna stop me from using it, though....

"Studies show that smoker are in general stronger than non smokers in a sense that in a 100 meter sprint the (fit) smoker would outtrun the non smoker"

    ......... what studies?
