    programming gets boring

After so many hours programming it gets really boring. Any tips to not get so bored...I mean it just isn't interesting after you do it too long ( and yes I know taking a break is an option, you people don't have to point out the incredibly obvious ones that I have already thought of).

If you don't take a break when you start to lose interest or get tired then you will make more mistakes. I've had projects where I worked great from 9am-2pm and then forced myself to work from 2pm-6pm. I spent most of the next day fixing the bugs from those last four hours when I wasn't at my best.

Listening to music always helps the time fly by when you are programming, and if you are doing something you enjoy so much, I dont know how it would get boring.

Then you are probably not being challenged enough, or you are being so challenged that you lose interest as nothing substantial gets completed in a short amount of time.

Well I guess three straight hours of programming is odd, but once you get comfortable, and into a zone, or mindset, you just keep going, and the time just seems to fly.

I get bored when i am coding something really mundane.. you know, just going through the process just to learn a bit more about an aspect of the language/s.

The trick I find is to try and implement that same bit of code in a way that is interesting. Creating a project that is close to your heart rather than merely functional can help keep your interest.

You should for health reasons get up every 10 minutes per hour you sit down. That is to say, every hour you spend in at your desk, you should spend 10 minutes stretching or taking a walk or getting a drink (or all three if you're really into multitasking ).

Whenever I get bored from programming, study, or just surfing the web, I take a break to get my mind on something else for a while. You have to have to otherwise you go insane.

I think it all depends on the project and how much you get pushed... I can sit here at work for 3-5 hours at a time and just go at it... sometimes I get so wrapped up in it that I don't even notice the time passing... but there are days when I get bored or stuck... and I take a break and stop by here or some other forums to give my mind a break...

Maybe the project you're working on doesn't interest you really. Can't you do something beside it? Programming something you're really interested in, reading something you like. Usually, when I get bored of my work, I take a break to read some interesting magazine or book to get inspiration.

I attend a few big universities (Double major), and I am always surprised to see how many people drop out after the first year, sometimes even the second or third!!, because they just find computer science and programming in general to be boring and they can't see themselves doing it everyday.

I can't blame them for doing what makes them happy, but I think it's important to know what you want before you spend a lot of money to pursue it.

I get bored as soon as I find bugs/errors that I can't fix/can't be bothered to fix.
