looks like another "bash america" thread.

    this has been overdone.

strange how you bring this up though, since i wrote a poem today that pretty much sums up my thoughts about hte US gov't these days:

I stand in the shadow of the american flag
i take a drag on my cigarrette
and curse at the minuette i'm reading...
    it blindly throws me to-and-fro
from high to low without middle
and without much of a plot for one to enjoy.

An eagle lands on the window sill
and i will myself away from burning it with my cigarette.

    asking restraint, from comments?

this thread is asking for trouble by its mere wording.
Alphabird32 if this was not your intention, please reword it, we've had to many pointless flame threads like this might become.

we have had many MANY threads about internal and external US policies and how we hate/love them, this thread is merely saying "Air your dirty laundry" and we need none of this.

Fortunately, House minority leader Dick Gephardt (Democrat) is my representative, which is a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is that his political power can bring all kinds of federal funds St. Louis's way. The bad thing is that this man has made promises to so many special interests in an attempt to increase his power, possibly aspiring for the presidency.

Some of the things the federal, state, and local governments have been doing I do not like, of course; but part of democracy is disagreement. One example is the Army Corps of Engineers plan to change the locks and dams of the Missouri River to make the river more liveable for a few endangered species of wildlife: This poses increased risk for flooding downstream in the St. Louis area and could have other potential economic consequences for the region with little benefit for the environment (it would be better if they could get the rivers cleaned up!).

I like the US government. I'm excited to see the November elections and how they turn out. Will Republicans be swept into office on Bush's coattails? Will Democrats be swept into office for other reasons? Only time will tell...

sounds more like a game than a serious series of elections that could determine the future of the united states (to me at least).

Aran, democracy in the US is set up such that everyone can decide the fate of the nation. This includes idiots. Thus, it becomes a popularity contest at times. Some would argue that the greatest thing about it is that people can vote for who they want even if they are voting for some stupid reason (like the canditate playing the sax on MTV). I would like to believe that people vote on the issues and character of the individual but that's not the case most of the time. So yes, in some ways the process is a game. A very expensive game. But I prefer it to anything else I've seen any day.

The Bush administration is kinda boring. There's no-one you can really love to hate. Bush can even called honest for an American president. Ashcroft is just a guy with high blood pressure who gets very excitable, but I wouldnt want his job right now. He needs some pot. Rummy's a pretty cagey guy-appears to be clean for Washington. Cheney will probably die soon-all the liberal press has to do is shout "accounting irregularities!!!" and not let him explain that 89 mil unaccounted for out of a 17 billion operating budget isnt really all that bad, especially with the difficulties involved in construction schedules, but that's nothing new. Nobody else likes Powell, he must be getting lonely. Don't know anything about Condy, that's probably how its supposed to be. And the First Lady is about as classy a lady as possible, from all appearances.

It's a dull bunch. I long for Janet and Hilary.

It's funny how liberals are trying to rip Bush's throat out over the new security measures. They're not really anything new. Except now the FBI can take over the work from the FDA. They really need a break. Waco must have tired them out. And the new capabilities are standard in the IRS' book. But anyways, everyone loves Lincoln and Franky Roosevelt, but they contributed more to the destruction of the Constitution than anyone, except maybe Clinton. Oh well

The only thing I have to say is

If you can vote then inform yourself of the issues and vote accordingly.

Think futher than the present and vote for the good of the planet not the good of your local area or personal agendas.

Do we care for our freedom?

All the care that we serrund our freedom with had kill our freedom!

We put a lot of things to protect our freedom, which ended up to make us have no freedom of nothing.... we should wait in that line for ever in the Airport ... and that is westting time....

If you watch the T.V. in the last few months you will find a lot of life Insurance advertisments, and I don't want to tell about the news which have nothing but bad news...

What can we say.... I don't know.... Logic has nothing to do with this. !!! Forgot about it, and back to work....

I agree. Unfortunately, a lot of Americans view voting as a big hassle. Long lines, missing work etc. They think that their one vote won't make a difference and then they complain about things like taxes being raised. Well where was your vote when you had your chance to be heard?

I once had a teacher tell me that if I was willing to give up my vote then I should be just as prepared to give up all my other freedoms/privileges as well. That always stuck with me.

I think; Actually I don't think. I don't concern myself with politics. I don't understand it, and I don't want to understand it. It'd probably just anger me more.

However; I have zero respect for Bush, I view him as a bumbling idiot... it just seems like he's someone elses mannikin.
