coding ability doesn't matter. anyone with coding ability (or a lack thereof) can contribute his/her best without being a moderator.

maybe its just me but, i wouldnt call these neccessarily minor...
and good coding practice starts with the "little things".

these are minor problems. gets doesn't prevent overrruns. fflush(stdin) is undefined. void main() is not technically correct. goto is the sin of the devil. if the program is

then why focus on these imperfections of c at all?

eh... i shouldn't have put that into my argument... it's just a pet peeve i have and it has no bearing on prelude's fitness as a moderator.

This evening I was told by the Webmaster that the level of votes cast in my favor has been tampered with by a member of this site. This person has created numerous fake profiles and used the vote with each of these accounts to cast votes for me (I was told maybe as many as 20 false votes were placed).

I feel that this has now spoiled the vote entirely, and put everyone other candidate in an unfair position. Due to this, I personally feel I have no alternative but to totally withdraw from this election. This is my decision alone and I have not been coerced into it in any way shape or form.

I wish to state that I had no knowledge before this evening that there was any kind of foul play, and I would not wish to benefit in any way from that kind of behavior. I’m very unhappy that this has taken place and all I can feel is bitterness towards the perpetrator and despondency as to how things have transpired.

I like this site a great deal and I would have been proud to moderate here, but the one happy thing to come from this is that it’s almost certain that the position will go to Prelude who in my opinion is a great choice and will be as much of a asset to the site as a moderator as she is as a teacher/advisor. Well done Prelude, you deserve this.

I would rather have the vote recast instead of you withdrawing. I must admit that I am most disappointed that someone felt the need to ruin the entire poll by voting more than once.

If there's a shame to this, beyond the obvious, it's that only one mod is being elected. Though I voted for Prelude, I sincerely hope that you understand what I'm saying here.

Though impossible to stop it entirely, my (personal) imperative would be to stop the infantile stupidity that has brought us to this.

It's not just incumbent upon the moderators of these Boards to oversee what takes place in the posts. That responsiblility falls on all of us who care about an intelligent, and articulate, exchange of ideas and information.

The General Discussion Board can go in whatever direction it chooses, but the programming Boards should be moderated. Not by one, but by all of us.

End of "soapbox", and, Fordy, for what it may be worth, I'm sorry that this happened. Prelude is more than capable, and deserving, but Ken is right. You are a man of honor.

If we do revote we could have the same problem.
Each person's ip address would have to be
checked against everyone else's -- that would stop
most casual cheaters. But it's still possible
to cheat if they only have to have access to more than one computer. The only way to stop it, I think, is to require a voter to
have been registered at least a week ago. Even then some
users such as GB(admitted) and TK have more than one account.
