    Halloween Website

This year I would like to create a Holloween website. I'm a horror fan. I have no web programming experience, but I can't let the kids down. Will basic HTML do the job, or is that not enough now a days.

I like all of my stuff to be pure HTML with notepad. It all depends on what you want to do I guess. If you want the flashy stuff (no pun intended) then you should probably look into all the add-on type stuff. For me, I like to see nice webpages using good old fanshon HTML w/o FrontPage or anything like that.

So you might go to < www.w3c.org > and learn the HTML 4.1 or whatever it is? Well I'm wondering if Java is good for developing webpages and if so where does one get a free Java compiler. I might just end up using HTML.

Wait! What about XML. Can that be used to create webpages? I have a book on it but have never bothered looking at it yet. Does anyone know?

No, fools. A NotPad-job just wont cut it. You need to make all of your buttons, headings, etc to be made in Macromedia Flash and make the actual site in Macromedia Dreamweaver. I can use both and have been using both for a couple years. If you want any help, just PM me or email me

And if you make it really hardcore, you would make it dynamic. You can do that in Flash using actionscript, and I think Dreamweaver supports the contruction of ASP pages, but i've never tried it...

Okay one more thing. What about Web Forms using C#? Is that any good for webpages. And does anyone know anything about XML. Is it just a protocol or is it used for presentation. I have heard of FLASH, but how many of us can run it. You need to deploy an addon to see the pages don't you? Is it easy to deploy?

Yes, you need the flash plug-in. I think it already comes with IE, but if you try to run a page with flash embedded in it, it will prompt you and download it. Go to one of those sotes I posted. In both, there is a flash animation (the large dark-blue box in the middle).

    Okay, that makes sense. Thanks.

Do you have to draw stuff than when you use FLASH? Do you have to be an artist.

Yes, you do, but its possible to make it look really good. The drawing of the flash movie is fairly easy compared to what you need to do behind the scenes of it.

I agree, I do the same thing, NOTEPAD RULES!

If you want to add some flash, without knowing any, just check out this site http://www.swishzone.com/, and download their demo.

You don't necessarily have to draw everything. You can import graphics.
