1. ## What is the IQ scale?

What is the IQ scale?

2. ## hmm

something that is very inaccurate...

take the test twice and you're likely to get scores that are
significantly different

In such a case, internet is a better place to find info than these
message boards.

5. Yes this really is an appropriate time to go googling, aye mate?

6. Average: 85 - 115
Above average: 116 - 125
Gifted Borderline Genius: 126 - 135
Highly gifted and appearing to be a Genius to most others: 136 - 145
Genius: 146 - 165
High Genius: 166 - 180
Highest Genius: 181 - 200
Beyond being measurable Genius: Over 200

7. As far as your scale goes, it's not very useful to give terms to IQs. You're defining something you don't understand with terms that you probably don't have well-defined meanings for.

IQ scores are based on a bell curve, not on a linear scale - look it up for more information; I wouldn't use the chart you posted for a project, though. It doesn't even use the standard terms that psychologists correlate to the various scores. You also need to differentiate between IQ scores on various tests (the Stanford-Binet test is only one of several).

Keep in mind that IQ tests measure only a limited range of intelligences; whether or not you believe there are seven types of basic intelligence or only a few, there is good reason to believe that there are at least several ways of measuring intelligence of individuals, each of which give wildly different results.

Furthermore, IQ tests are tainted by a history of being used in negative and mean-spirited ways. The original use of the IQ test scale was the try to determine who needed the most help in the classroom (note: originally, an IQ was determined by dividing the mental age by the actual age and then multiplying by one hundred. How you determine the mental age? The first solution was to simply give a lot of idiotic tests and hope the bad ones cancelled out.) Unfortunately, they were often given under poor testing conditions - take as an example the tests given to members of the military before WWII - the conditions were atrocious, but were still used to separate groups. (Incidentally, it was possible to score a negative IQ on those tests! The test takers took points off of people who got nothing right if they determined it was necessary.)

Take a look at, for instance, Stephen J. Gould's The Mismeasure of Man, for more information on the history of IQ tests.

8. uhh...that's off of a webpage buddy...cut and paste...

9. I was under the impression that your IQ value is relative to the IQ of the general population, with 100 therefore being average. Dont know if thats true though...

The bit above has gotta be true though, I'm pretty sure a normal distribution of IQ's is observed throughout a population.

10. >What is the IQ scale?
The scale itself varies from test to test, you'll need to be more specific as to which test you want the scale for.

-Prelude

11. >Genius: 146 - 165

thats wrong

Genius level starts at 160.

12. ## hmm

I guess he wanted to keep the test takers happy
by reducing the scale to 146...

gee.. i thought i was a genius

13. You can be as smart as hell, but if you aren't an interesting person i don't want to have any business with you, be it as small a business as conversation, or a business of making money.

That's because you're a jerk...

People are judged too much on their social skills; not how hard
they work, not how determined they are. Nope, only how well
they interact with others. Screw others. I still think that the whole
concept of socializing is anti-nature. I've watched nature shows.
Those animals don't socialize; they don't obsess over how many
friends they have, or how interesting they appear to be to other
animals. Not at all, they just hang out, by themselves, under a
tree. That's the life for me, baby.

It sucks so much. People that lead an uneventful, non-interesting
life, and have no personality are pretty much screwed. They have
no chance of advancing at their job.

That's why I plan to start my own multi-zillion dollar company. And
I'm not going to hire any of those annoying, sunshiney, stupid,
little secretary girls that always smile...
