    I couldn't agree more Novacain.

It's nothing more than paranoia and the press does nothing to help the situation with this sort of scaremongering (sp?). 11 years ago he (SH) invaded a tiny defenceless arab country, and now all of a sudden he is global threat number 1 and hellbent on destroying the western world? Give me a break.

To Americans : What happened on September 11 was appalling but it doesn't mean the entire eastern world is out to get you. However continually bombing arab countries further into the stone age will only make matters worse for you.

Yeah, you guys are right. Hussein is really a nice guy. It's all a giant misunderstanding/smear campaign on the part of those ******* Americans. He didn't really mean to invade Kuwait, the gas pedal just got stuck on his tank and he accidently rolled across the border. He didn't mean to gas all those Kurds. He didn't mean to shoot all those Scud missiles. The payments he's giving to the families of the Middle Eastern suicide bombers - turns out that was just a little snafu down at the Bahgdad Bank. I just can't believe I misunderstood Hussein all this time. In fact, I'm going to sell all my stuff, quit my job, and move to Iraq today.

all of a sudden he is global threat number 1 and hellbent on destroying the western world? Give me a break.
Osama Bin Laden, the Taliban, et al weren't much of a threat either until a little after 9:00 one September morning.

Because there was nothing to replace him....

During all those years the west supported Iraq (against Iran which seemed a greater problem) he was free to stamp on all opposition....

The fact was there wasnt any group of rebel's waiting to take control...they were all dead.

So what option was there? Occupation?...not in this day and age.....they just hoped clipping his wings would end the problem...

That is right. But there is no way the US could have justified an invasion of Afganistan before Sep 11 simply because they thought Bin Laden might be a threat and might be about to launch a strike.

You can't just go round bombing and invading countries because you perceive them to be a threat. The whole world would be at war if everyone did that!! You just have to do everything you can to protect the civillians of your own country. Then if someone does commit an atrocity or an act of war against you, by all means retaliate.

The fact remains that SH, since being driven from Kuwait, hasn't commited any crimes or acts of war against the west.

Iraq and Iran were at war, and Iraq used some chemical weapons against Iran. That's what happened. Iotola Humani (or however the **** you spell that), versus Sadam Heusien. The Iranians were religious fundamentalists. This happened int he 1980's.

The problem with wars are that the innocent are the ones who die, not those responsible for the war in the first place.

-no they did'nt what the hell are u talking about?

and that war like most wars was started by usa, when they told their boy(S.H)to atack Iran and start kaos in the to countries.
this was the perfect time for them to do this (usa cause in Iran
    a revolution had just started.

now if that war had not existed both of the countries would have
been extremely rich, again not so good for usa.
instead they started the war between them. sold weapons, and everything thing they could think of or atleast make money of

Iraq had for instance free healthcare etc.

As it states that the US and UK are STILL at war with Iraq. I think bombing his country is an act of war. You have not stopped bombing him since the Gulf War.
We continue to patrol the no fly zones that are dictated by the cease fire agreement that Saddam signed. We have every right to fly missions in this area, and to attack things in this area that violate the cease fire agreement.

In the Gulf War you covered Iraq in tonnes of radioactive material (U234 core ammo), destroyed most of the military hardware you sold him, but stopped short of removing him. Why?
First, I never heard of the U.S. selling military hardware to Iraq. Most of what was fought were old Russian tanks and jets left over from the cold war. Second, We didnt remove him because many of the Middle Eastern members of the coallition asked us not to. They didnt want to offend the fanatical religous elements of their population.

You have then continued to fly over 3000 missions a year against him, blockaded his ports and demanded that he allow you to have spies in his country. (the UN's compounds cameras were used to help in the bombing under Butler)
We continue to enforce the terms of the cease fire agreement that HE signed. This included the creation of two No Fly Zones, one in the north to protect the kurds (who he tested chemical weapons on), and one in the south. Another primary part of the cease fire was that the U.N. be allowed to inspect whatever they want to make sure Saddam wasn't working on weapons of mass distruction.

One last thing, people mentioned that the U.S. wasn't getting support from other countries in the region. Part of this is because the countries in the area don't want to come out in public and say they are in favor of the U.S. attacking Iraq, and then getting screwed when the U.S. decides not to.

So they werent already offeded by the fact that half of the Western World's troops were on their doorstep already waging war....

And who was stading up for Saddam??

    Kuwait - LOL!!!
Saudi Arabia - Nope. They were as worried about Saddam as anyone
    Iran - LMFAO..as if
Jordan, Syria - Too scared of the US letting Israel loose on them

As I see it, we wouldnt have left Iraq with that guy in charge if there was any option at the time.....
