    I like C++, but not keen on C.

    Java is a really nice language, but hate the GUI it creates. Also not keen on running everything in a VM.

    Delphi is smashing! But not enough people use to make worthwhile (i.e. finding a job etc.).
    OS: Windows XP
    Compilers: MinGW (Code::Blocks), BCB 5

    You're right. Duh, it is a cprogramming board. Try to do a poll in some other boards and let us know what you come up with

    C++ if I had only one choice, but C# first and C++ as backup if I had more than one.

    I doubt you will get a representative answer to such a question on a C/C++ message board. Ask the same on a Delphi board, you'll get a different answer.

    The "best" language is the one that is best suited to the problem you are currently trying to solve. The actual language is often that dictated to you by the company(ies) you are working with in the current contract. The two are rarely the same.
