    Are you brave?

    Hi..

I am an infrequent flyer..blah blah holidays etc...

Does anybody (especially frequent flyers) still feel safe about taking to the skies?

Since September 11th I have not flown, but have seen crashes/accidents etc which were unrelated to terrorism.

It does seem that you are taking your own life into your hands by simply buying an airline ticket...

I do have a certain knowledge of aircraft engineering-see my other post, but even though I know planes CAN fly-I am going to stay away for a while...

Does anybody else feel the same, or is it just me?

And did I just see in a UK paper..the story of all the small arms smuggled (albeit OBVIOUSLY) onto a plane at LA international airport? Or am I dreaming that the new improved US security(at airports) is a shambles?

    Bears thinking about yes?
    Such is life.

relax. remember, you have a better chance of getting in a car crash than a plane crash. i feel as safe as ever, honestly. just remember: if your plane is taken hostage, there are people who will risk their lives to take it back.

I really don't think that the situation has changed that greately to be any more afraid to fly then before. In fact, I think we now know what can happen a little better, simply know that there is that risk while we igonred it before. In any case, I am no more afraid to fly a plane as I am to drive a car, so...

    So the terrorists win.

They have achieved their goal, to make you stop and think that your world is not safe.

novacain, if that was in reply to my lost... I think that understanding the reality (the fact that terrorist CAN happen on a plane) is one thing, and being afraid is another. While I do realize that taking a plane flight has it's own dangers, there's no fear.

If I flew before, I'll fly today and nothing has changed in that.

When I went to Canada this year I was sat next to this blonde woman who was absolutely c******g herself. I managed to convince her that if we got hijacked they would start shooting the men first. And she seemed ok with that!!

    A heart attack
On the road: You can pull over and ask for help, and an ambulance would come
In the air: you'd leave it up to the skywaitress, your screwed

    If you chlostraphobia(sp?) acts up
On the road: pull over and get some air
In the air: the oxygen masks only come out when the cabin pressure is high, and since theres no way out, your screwed

    If you throw up
On the road: pull over and run into the bushes
In the air: it goes all over the place and other people in the small cabin get really disgusted from it then they throw up and it turns into a barf-o-rama, and theres so much comotion that the plane goes down and your screwed

    in case of fire
I don't even have to tell you

What was this blonde doing? I'm not sure what the *s stand for, but that sounds pretty sexual.

You forgot these other probable scenarios, Xterria:
    1) If you get drunk and you're driving, then you'll probably get in a wreck, but you have a chance of surviving. In an airplane, however, they'll try to constrain you and probably someone will fire a gun and the bullet will go through the fuselage bulwark and the cabin will get depressurized and someone stole all the oxygen masks and no-one will be able to repair the hole and you're screwed.

    2) If you try to use your cellphone while driving, then you might get in a wreck, but probably not. However, if you try to use it in a plane, then it will interfere with the GPS and you won't be able to figure out how to turn it off because you're an idiot and no-one else will because Bugs Bunny steals it and eats it and then a freak storm renders the shortwave radio useless and then the gyroscopes in the gyrocompass just plain get tired and fall down, and then something happens to break the billion other redundant navigation systems and the pilot and copilot are hypnotized by a quack with a gold watch and the plane gets lost and has to crash land in the Himalayas and the food runs out so the surviving passengers and crew members decide to draw straws to see who gets eaten first but then they realize that you won't shut up and decide to eat you first and you're screwed.

    Yeah, airplanes are pretty dangerous
I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience and to forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race.

Windows XP consists of 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company, that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

Ummm, mine was kinda a serious post.

Still WTF...yes they say flying safer than driving-MY .......... it is....

    Xteria has it right..

The real idea of my post was to highlight the ever increasing amount of news coverage given to airline fatalities.....and it is increasing.

Terrorists, accidents and the ever popular airport disasters prove......well you choose.

I have another post going-no 1 likes it though.....it asks wether the software written for the airline/ATC systems are as BULLETPROOF as they are supposed to be...

And as none of you mardasses replied to it, one can only assume you DO NOT write bulletproof software, only tatty 'other' business software.
