Actually QANTAS (Queensland and New Zealand Air Service) is yet to have a fatality since started in 1920.
Their last major incident was in 1999 when the plane overshot the runway. Prior to that was a crash in 1960.

I find it strange that people are so surprised when things like this happen. I mean America has a population of roughly 250 million. Now there are almost certainly going to be a few fruitcakes in a population that size and some of those are likely to have homicidal tendencies. Accompany that with the relative ease with which it is possible to obtain firearms and hey presto, things like this happen.
