    monitor woes

    Hi

    Just a quick one......

i got me a nice shiny sony monitor the other week. It was an ex-display model.........

3yr warranty blah blah 17" CRT hi con etc

thing is , there are two black lines horizontally across the screen- I would say third of the way down, and third of the way up........

now, i know this monitor was used to show dvds in the shop...is it burned in for good? damn--i meant to say the lines are roughly where a letter box dvd would play, and the black borders would start...............

i got a warranty (sold as new) so i can get it repaired, but has any1 else noticed these lines-or are they supposed to be there?

they are very faint, and not always noticable-dependant on what you are doing..

and if i can get it under warranty i guess it would be a major job huh?

It is a tritronic(sp) monitor...Those lines are supposed to be there. They are shadows from 2 thin wires helping to stabilize the field inside your screen. Most high quality monitors have them and it is one of Sonys trademarks.

Why would a "high quality" monitor show two bands across the screen? I'd take the lower quality monitor w/o lines.

Because those two wires give you a non distorted picture on a perfectly flat screen. And that wont happen with out those two lines. You can get a flat screen without but then the picture will be scewed.

they are only bareley noticable....like on pure white background..not in games etc...have to admit though, it is very crisp display with no distortion etc
