I bought a a USB cord to change my keyboard to USB port instaed yesterday, but the computer still refused to work properly, all the keys lost the function. And later it became even worse, it showed me a black screen before my OS(currently the win2000 server) is started. my goodness ! someone said it is because of some unexpected mistakes of my chipset, I am really at a loss now....................

    Try resetting your CMOS?

    Edit:
Maybe the maching is trying to communicate with you... try beeping back, try understanding what it's trying to tell you... maybe you can become friends.

I think what catfish means is the post beeps. How your computer beeps when you first turn it on. One short single beep is good, generally anything else is bad. To be honest, that's about all i can come up with right off. Sorry man.

If it takes time for the keyboard to stop working could be to do with the PC's temp. Once it gets hot (up to normal operating temp) the KB's port stops working due to a fault on the MB (get a new MB is only solution). (As long as sometimes the PC's fails to boot with the 'KB not found error", particularly just after failing while in Win2000.)

Else I would suspect, only if both your USB and PS2 KB's fail, that you had a keylogger that was interfeering with the correct working of your PC.

The endless beeps (when the KB is moved in this case) is the system telling you that the message que is full and the new messages you are generating are discarded.
