Thread: ath overheat?

my new stuff get's major hot! the case gets warm to the touch for cryin' out loud! i know my brothers p4 had similar effects... is this okay for newwave stuff? i come from a p3... i got the stock fan from AMD [bought retail], and i have one case fan and one that's on my AGP card. any help? do i need more? my long time night sessions depend on it!

Maybe your case is at fault. You can have an army of fans inside, but if there is no airflow holes on it, those fans will melt eventually.

Either get a shotgun and blow a hole on a side panel (sometimes it just feels like that) or get a new case.

If the case allows for airflow, then something is wrong with the case fan. The idea is for it to blow air out. Some people, me included, like to have 2 fans. One at the front and another at one of the sides or back. One sucks air in, the other expels air out. But a simple "blower" fan should do the trick unless you have your case on the floor on some corner or something where it's easy for heat to accumulate.

whats the rating/speed?

I have an 1800+, and as we speak it's getting hot! I just turned on the system a few minutes ago... Help!

I have a volcano heat sink/fan on my computer. My dad was told by the computer shop owner that it is what to use. So far I don't hate the computer shop owners guts and thing he charages to much. Though I was very anoyed when a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive cable cost me 6.99 but neither circit city nor Best buy had any so his shop was the only place to get one.

My fan cost me 59.99.

you want to keep below this, i think for amd's fry temp is somewhere between 99C - 108C but dont let them go above 75C ever if you cane help it. cause i could be wrong.

a friend has fans that kept his dual 1600's and 35C - 40C i cant remember what kind they are, i'll let you know when i find out.

If your case is hot to the touch then I think you have a problem.

I have a 1600xp Ath. I have a fan half the size of a softdrink can on it. It never changes the cases temperature (though it is winter here and the temp is 5 - 25 C and sunny). No PC I have built gets that hot even when burning CD's. When I bought my Athlon there was not a supplied fan, it had to be bought on its own.

Try taking off one side of the case to tell if the fan is the problem or the airflow is.

well it's not hot like i can't keep my palm [or finger, for that matter] on it for extended periods of time, it is warm tho... it's night right now and it's not as warm as it was [computer on for about 10 minutes as of now] as the previous post. thing is... it's the stock fan, so i'm guessing it must be air flow. i'll test that...

and sheesh! those people are maniacs! obviously it must be for the sake of doing it because that looks expensive! [and hacky, except for that one plate he got from a manufactured place]...

and if it is the airflow, what do recommend? new case? i was thinking so, actually, when i went to the show to get my stuff... but decided not to spend on it... maybe i got one in the garage... or if i could find a new sleeve [doubt it since it's unlikely one will fit correctly and have better circulation] how do those neat looking clear ones perform? do they have holes boardside? thank you!

god damn thing is set to auto shut down at 60 degrees..

oh, and mine always runs cool, with 1 case fan, and there is another on my graphics card..........you must have a problemo!

the last one i blew up was next to a radiator...yours isnt is it?

hm, again stock fan... probably the case, i'll ask my pop, he'll have a better idea about it... we shall see...
