the matrix effect wasnt original, it was basically over used that is all. in the movie Kuffs they had bullet time and this was in like 1988... I havent seen Ghost in the shell in a while, dont remeber it very well but yes what ever you say the matrix is a rip of of it probably is.
yes, it did rip off some major concepts of GITS, but then again there was another anime it ripped off of too, can't remember what it was though.
as for the So called greatest fight scenes ever, I have two words for ya,
Twin Warriors.

Regardless if it was, the great thing about the matrix was the slow motion graphics technology. A truly revolutionary thing that they did very well. It's amazing what actually goes on to get those 360 deg shots. Simply amazing.
Yeah well it was a couple of Australian guys who did all the SFX so of course they were brilliant, lol. Anyhow, I like the Matrix, but it sure as hell isn't original. Very similar plot to GITS, aside from some minor changes here and there.
another great filming film would be The Truman Show... and for another extreme... it would have to be Requiem for a Dream...

If you're looking for a real good movie, go for "Heathers". Anything that has Christian Slater and Wynona Ryder trying to blow up a school is good stuff.

The matrix, minus that extremely lame ending, was a good movie.
