obtain an ftp server. linux has a free one, and windows has (i think) warftpd.
if you ip address is fixed (it doesn't change every time you log on) then use that one. if yours isn't fixed, there are usually ways to get around that difficulty.
If you have a dynamic ip... go to www.dns2go.com
If you want an FTP and are running Windows 2002/XP, setup IIS.
If you're running another Windows OS, I reccommend www.bpftpserver.com
If you're running Linux, you're all set, although I don't know about the dynamic ip stuff...
i downloaded the www.bpftpserver.com program. i looks nice to use and stuff but i cant figure it out. i would explai my problmem but im to lazy ecpesiacly if no one can answer, if anyone has bpftp and think they can help me please say so!
get Serv-U. Search for it at download.com
my friend told me about apache.org but i cant find the file for the program! if anyone finds it please say so!
why are you wanting to set up a FTP anyway? In the future, I'm going to make a RP thing with FTP. I will make a client that goes in and reads all posts and stuff. It is difficult to explain, but it basically like RP message board, with lots of tools to make it fun and easy to use.
apache is a web server(allows you to have a web page) it is not an ftp serverOriginally posted by Klinerr1

Dual-Catfish, what ftp software do you use?
Microsoft IIS 5.0
There's nothing really to BPFTP... add some directories, set permissions and create a username to access them. I still haven't fully figured out IIS yet though.
