    Where are the Viruses?

I have not had a computer virus for many months. Here about 8 or 9 months ago after acquireing the Nimda virus I was ready to throw my computer out the window. I guess the people at Microsoft have been doing good work or something. I think I'll keep my computer.

    Uninstall your Anti-virus...and keep surfing...

    Hopefully the viruses should return...

I work in a PC store/repair shop and we see hundreds of virus infected systems a month in a tiny little town of 30,000 people.

"I guess the people at Microsoft have been doing good work or something."

Yes, this is the problem, they can work on the viruses all they want but it wont do **** unless people actually update.

(LOL I haven't updated in like a year and I've never been infected)

Actually there is NO protection against users executing harmful programs. Not for MS, not for Anti-Virus Tools, not for Linux. If a user is going to destroy his system, he will succeed.

Yeah, but most people aren't intent on destroying their system when they get viruses.

One could put a rail along a road that borders a cliff, and then decide that people who want to drive through the rail easily could, so it defeats the purpose of the rail... but that is nonsensical.

It's not about preventing some from destroying their computer, it's about preventing someone from unintentially doing so.

There are just some dumb ideas from Microsoft (ability to put executable macros in documents), and straight dangerous bugs (ability to get someone to execute code from an email without them opening an attachment) in Outlook.

where are the viruses? I dunno..

i got hit by the usual Js something the other day, but my antivirus battered it..It was the first for 3 months mind you..

funny thing is, on my mates pc he is fortunate enough to have always on broadband access...on average he gets hit 6 times per day....His norton is working overtime...

is he just unlucky? A lot of the time it mentions a trojan attack, or is it to do with his high speed access?
    Such is life.

It might just be luck. I am on a cable and I never been hit with a virus. Not even on the computer without a antivirus program.

dude are you insane? 3-4 hits per hour is random internet noise!!!! if someone was comming at you you would have 10,000+ hits on that firewall from one ip in less than 1/2 and hour... and isp's dont react to anything short of child porn or someone rooting their servers

I used to have that problem, I have DSL. Norton Firewall kept blocking some sub seven or backdoor trojan. I checked the IP and it was from my ISP, so I'm assuming there's nothing wrong(I go these massages like once an hour). But on second thought I did send them an e-mail about it and never got a reply... The solution: stop using a firewall, it slows down online games anyway. If you get a virus, just reformat. Much easier and less complicated this way! Don't put any important info on ur comp though, cuz of the trojans you might get. But I think your AV should pick that up.

I said I get about 3 hits per 4 hour, meaning if i stay on of 4 hours, i'll get about 3 hits on average! sorry if i didn't make my self clear!

And for the reformatting idea, I like it, I think it's the reason i'm getting all the errors in this board! I think i'll try it!
