    some history

When the British were about to leave the Indian Subcontinent and it was decided that there will be a division of territories among two new countries (namely India and Pakistan).
Lord Mountbatten, the last viceroy to the Indian Subcontinent which was uptill then ruled by the British, gave his "3rd June Plan" on 3rd June, 1946, which defined the formula (that's not a mathematical formula) by which the territories were to be divided into Pakistan and India.

This plan was approved by the British Parliament on 20th February 1947 which said that the British would leave the Indian subcontinent by July 1948. Later, by an ammendment this date was changed to 15th August 1947.

A/c to the plan, it was decided that the decision to annex with either Pakistan or India will be made by the people living in that particular province or princely state (at that time there were more than fifty such states, KASHMIR, being only one of them) by voting.

The people of KASHMIR were never given that right. LORD MOUNTBATTEN became the first Governer General of India while
MUHAMMAD ALI JINNAH, (a local leader) the Governor General of Pakistan. Now, there was this REDCLIFF COMMISION (lead by Sir Serale Redcliff, a british lawyer) appointed by the British parliament to decide the borders for the countries. He along with MOUNTBATTEN, cheated and included KASHMIR in India, as MOUNTBATTEN became the governer general of India. A part of that Kashmir was won by Pakistan in the war b/w PAK and IND in 1948.

The first prime minister of INDIA, Mr. JAWAHARLAL NEHRU, promised that the people of KASHMIR will be given the right of self-determination. He even signed a UNITED NATIONS RESOLUTION. Unfortunately, after his death, his followers did not follow onto his footsteps. The RESOLUTION is still lying in some UN table, it has been more than 50 years since then.

The people of KASHMIR are fighting for the right of self-determination. This fight CANNOT be called terrorism....Even if PAKISTAN supports them ... i don't think there's anything wrong with that...fighting for ur own piece of land. PAKISTAN just wants INDIA to follow that UN Resolution which it's own prime minister signed...

As far as terrorism is concerned, how can Pakistan(= 1/3 in size of India) even try any such thing with India, when it knows that if tries anything bad...it'll have to face a WAR, in which it's army is most likely to lose in a conventional battle.

The freedom-fight movement in Kashmir started in 1989. Even, before that a/c to Amnesty International 50,000+ people had been killed. Who killed them ? The Indian Armed Forces...

well well well.. It is not the Indian Army buddy it is the Pakistani supported terrorist.. And fella what happened to the POLL which you were running wheather kashmir should be annexed to India, Pakistan or given Independence.. It looks like you deleted it after majority of people voted that they prefere India since variuos reasons.. One reason by ishir is that he is a kashmiri and he prefered India since pakistan was a very bad country with litle infrastructure etc etc etc.. Well well deleted the thread huh.. That proves how you rig polls and stuff...

    war is politics gone wrong

Personally, I have no opinion one way or the other regarding India or Pakistan, but, it does prove that in todays world, most of the war and police actions are created by great powers who think the world should behave the way they do, and anyone who doesn't should be seen as a terrorist, or whatever term is fashionable at the time.

It would be nice for a change to just let these areas sort out their own problems without some bigwig coming in for the publicity and warping the public opinion on the right moral answer.

Having said that, most of the worlds trouble spots are there due to actions taken hundreds of years ago never being allowed to settle.

Prehaps a Cprogramming forum is not the best place to discuss the fundamentals of War and politics, but at least the responses will be interesting!

    The UK

President Blair, the UK Prime Minister held talks today with one of the countries, and it seems that he's sending one of his lapdogs to India for more discussions next week.

UN had passed a resolution in which they had given the right to Kashmiris to choose their partner.. but Indian Army there in Kashmir do not want this thing to be happen...

Following are the links of two pages having UN Resolution August 13, 1948 Text.
    www.jammu-kashmir.com
    www.kashmir-information.com

and following is the Part III of the Resolution..
    PART III

The Government of India and the Government of Pakistan reaffirm their wish that the future status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir shall be determined in accordance with the will of the people and to that end, upon acceptance of the truce agreement, both Governments agree to enter into consultations with the Commission to determine fair and equitable conditions whereby such free expression will be assured.
Part III of the Resolution quoted above clearly states that Kashmiris have the right to determined their future...
Then why 70 Million Indian army in Kashmir killing peoples asking for their right to determine their future...

    What more can be written...

And where is UN ... in this case....
