I read a review in some game magazine about an athlon at something like 1500 mhz and a p4 at like 2000 mhz and on 75% of applications the athlon kicked some ass. They used exactly the same hardware(video card, etc...) for each machine, once they tested the first they then yanked it all out and did the second. Athlon is also cheaper... what more can be said?

The pentium 4 chips will throttle down if they are overheating, instead of frying, which is nice. Still, I prefer AMD.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure all chips do that.

And to top off the fact that it already runs slightly faster, you can overclock the hell out of the athlons. And by the way, I don't want to hear any of the "It burns your processor up faster. " In my opinion whoopdedoo. Chances are you're going to have a new one every couple of years anyway, its not really going to affect it unless you do it for years.

My Athlon started crashing after a few weeks... Always when it was hot temperature. After a while I couldn't take it anymore so I had to backup to my old P133, running since years even without any CPU cooler (only a heatsink and a case cooler near the CPU).
I can't really say if it was the CPU or the motherboard that was crap but I just have a better feeling with Intel now (got a new P3, this double-buying in a short time was really expensive ). Might have been bad luck or anything but I don't know... Too many people have similar experiences to not see a pattern here. The intel is rocksolid, whatever you say.
I guess that doesn't really matter to hardware-freaks and gamers though and the AMD is really faster and cheaper (esp. for gaming).

Actually i'm on my 2nd amd. I had an athlon xp1800 and my fan went out, about 5 minutes later the processor went out too. I've never had the oppurtunity to do this with a pentium but I assume that a pentium would last longer, as much as i hate to admit it.

I compare Intel with Microsoft. I take no questions concerning that statement.

    AMD forever.

there is no thing such as AMD 2.2 GHz
it is AMD 2200 which is about 1.8 GHZ

U should not use AMD without HeatSink
    it heats-up really fast
Thats not the case for Pentium or its related products

    Money wise AMD better,
    Performance wise Pentium better.

Athlon XP out prefom pentium 4's. (there is more then speed you know) and this is proven through numerious test.

Without a heat sink both would normaly go up in smoke but intel's actually slow down so they don't heat up. This should be the trend for all chips after this both AMD and Intel.

hmmm , i ran a p2 266 for a LONG time..was ok. I now run an 1800XP AMD, again no problems. Why (relating to above posts) would any1 WANT to run their CPU without a fan? Kinda doesnt really warrant talking about. Does it?
    Such is life.
