i did not say that one of the values is 2. i said that one ofthe values is around half of 7.11 .and, no it was not a random number. i did some calculations to get that results although it does seem illogical to me...

anyway, i madea program to test the results of the four values. and dual_catfish's values were indeed exactly correct!!

lemme try, i am not sure i am right, but here goes:

- Ask the first person an obvious and universal question (example: Are you asleep?)
- If he answers yes, he is the devil. if he answers no, go to next step:
- Ask the second person the same question.

- If both people answered no, that means that the last one is the devil.

A cone has a circle at the bottom. You probably already know the formula for calculating the area of a circle. The formula for calculating the volume of the whole cone is: base area (circle) multiplied with the height, divided by 3.

Think of it this way....

if a letter ascends, it goes past an imaginary half-way point. The only ascending non-capital letters are-
l, k, t, f, b, d (sometimes the j ascends, depends what font you are using)

I am not sure i understand. Are you asking for a way to fill the cone 1/10 with water? If so, are you allowed to use anything besides the glass itself?

so the manufaturer wants the new volume of the glass to be 10% of the glass more than the current volume of the glass?
so, if the current volume of the glass is x,
the manufacturer wants the new volume to be:
x + 10%(x)

is that correct? i need to know that in order to answer the question.

The current volume of the glass is:

Formula: Base area*height/3

Diameter/2=r, in this case 3cm. base area= r^2*3.14, which in this case becomes 28.26 cm2.

28.26*8=226.08; 226.08/3=75.36. The glass can currently keep a volume of 75.36cm3.

The manufacturers wants it to be able to keep 10% more, 75.36*1.1=82.896

For you guys, I think this is a really easy problem. Hope I cleared things up here.

Sorry to disappoint, whilst it only took me about 4 minutes to solve, I didn't do it algebraicly, I used trial and error and guessed that x^2 was an integer; Basically I cheated.

I then tried to solve it properly and err... failed, thought at first i could use logs, but unfortunately not.

So sorry folks, i don't have an answer for you. Though i'm as intrigued as anyone to see the algebraic solution.
