well, we actually no less then we make ourselves belive. We make up stuff so we can understand how and why atoms work.
Like the romans, we do not actually understand why electrons work like they do- the romans did not understand how plumbung was possible but they still did it.
We havent the slightest clue how gravity works, and my belief is that infite energy can be harvested by gravity.
How advanced should we get? we place more value on technology then on our own lifes(if you have a job you likely spend 50 hours a week at a computer, how many hours a week do you spend with other humans, or bettering yourself?).
We know how to do things but cant, if there was a material that could withstand 8000 degrees of heat for extended amounts of time we would have an infinite power source, at 8000 degrees water and hydrogen seperate and explode, causing 5 more h2o explosions and so on... pour in more water and you have more power, no byproducts, no pollution, afterwards water and h2o recombine, renewable, infinite.
Here is my message to the world :
Do not modify humans, do not clone humans, and do not make humans immortal. If we do we are not humans... rather a species created by humans.

i wouldn't go so far as to say we 'make up stuff'... but in and of itself, i do believe that science is based on fundamental 'truths' which we assume in order to build upon... feel free to take these truths and rewrite them in a nice cmd-line interface... stamp my name on it... and mail it to god... [non-religion insert... just for the sake of completing the joke]

Seeing isn't believing, I'm just saying that you can't see a single atom, but you know it exists, and makes up everything. I can't see God in a physical form, but I still believe that God exists.
