Do you have control over the minimun length for a search term? Four letters seems irritatingly restrictive when you are looking for things like new and STL.

Agreed. We aren't able to do anything about that. I'll bring it to the attention of the webmaster.

Searching for "stl*" (4 characters) works just fine
"new*" also works, but is less helpful somehow....
Well, thanks for looking into it.
There is a way to shorten the word number........but its probably not worth it.........If you shorten the length of the search, then the size of the database increases massively
Weird to understand, but the search feature that works on these boards opearates as some kind of weird lookup..........there's a table that holds indexs for this search and it is the largest table in the whole database!!..........more entries than threads, PMs...everything!
Seems highly ineffiecint, but when you consider the search facility on the old board and other non-VB boards (case in point - Gamedev).....it seems this waste of resources does have a use in that you can search effectively without waiting for over a minute, and the results are pretty reliable.....
yes, precalculating things like can save the user tons of time... [for example, trig lookup tables... and other such things [i use them a lot in my gfx stuff and it's still too slow! hehe]...] yeah and you'd figure that if the webmaster has the space on the server, he may as well use it... and besides, space is cheap, bandwidth is not!
