    >>who has had a girlfriend at 12 ???

Actually my wife and I started dating when we were 13. We got married not long after we graduated high school. Counting dating and marriage we've been together for over 14 years ( happily, I might add ).

    Amen to that, Brother!

"but don't ADOPT A KID AND TRY TO RAISE IT WITH YOUR HOMOSEXUAL PARTNER. Imagine the trauma of this kid in school, "hey how come you got two daddies/mommies?" A kid needs both the affection of a mother and the stronghand of a father"

I don't buy it, who's to say that a gay couple would make any worse parents than a straight couple?

So the kid would grow up thinking there was nothing wrong with gay couples........God forbid.......

"None taken Clyde. As I had stated, that is my view on things, and I don't expect everyone to see it my way or to accept my views, I was just expressing my view."

Fair enough, it's just that your view kinda disagrees with huge amounts of medical science.

"I just think that as long as we have laws differentiating between race/sexual-preferance/religious belief, we're going to have racism/sexism/etc. I dont see a difference, so why are all these "minority" groups all pushing for laws that are just making them more segregated?"

I think that a lot depends on the situation, if a society has no racism/sexism/etc. then creating laws that differentiate will certainly cause some, on the other hand if a society has lots of racism/homophobia/blah then laws might offer some protection for minorites from an ignorant public.

Having said that, i'm pretty ignorant on the subject to be honest could ya give me some examples of laws already in effect and laws that minority groups are pushing for?

ROFL!!! BWAHAH!!! Geez, I can't stand that woman...

And about the gays adopting thing: What's wrong with a gay person (or couple) adopting? It's ignorant IMO to discriminate against gay couples because of their lifestyle. Sure, you might not agree with it, but it's stupid (and old-fashioned) to be against it just because you don't agree. Hell, I disagree with a lot of **** in this world, but I'm not gonna support the prohibition of it just because of that fact.

When I was in Junior High School, there was this
really cool substitute teacher that a lot of the
    kids, including myself, liked.

Anyway, one day we saw him on the news. Apparently
he had been having, uh, "intimate relations"
    with some of his students...

Man, I talked about Star Trek with this guy.

    Anyway, what?

Well that's just the way I feel, if people want to be homosexual, good more power to them, I won't go and rally for their "gay" rights but I don't stop them, I have lesbian friends and all that. But I don't agree with it and I've told them so. Doesn't mean we're not friends. Also about the adoption thing, it's just too weird, but hey I can't stop it can I?Although there's one case that would agree with, that instead of a kid being on the streets, needing adoption and he/she were adopted by a gay couple this is far better than being on the streets there I guess it makes sense, still don't agree with the idea though.

No, nothing of the sort. It's just that kids could be torturous about it...I'd support a gay couple adopting kids, but you'd have to think how weird it'd be for the kid...

I remember it being boys... But it was a long
time ago. Either way, it's beyond icky. Hehe, I
remember him having a conversation with one of
my friends about his (my friend's) parents' store
and dried mangos. Now that I think of it, he may
have been hitting on my friend.

.... it wouldn't be "weird" for the kid at all, it would be "perfectly normal" for the kid. He might get teased/picked on but then kids get teased/picked on for all kinds of things, ethnic minority kids get picked on for being in an ethinic minority, does that mean its justifiable to think that maybe ethnic minorites shouldn't have/adopt kids?

I'm intrigued, some people on this thread say they "disagree" with homosexual couples adopting children..... why?

*sigh* Hey, does it bother anybody else when their words are twisted around?

    >>I'm intrigued, some people on this thread say they "disagree" with homosexual couples adopting children..... why?

    I never said I disagreed....

    >>.... it wouldn't be "weird" for the kid at all, it would be "perfectly normal" for the kid.<<

It really wouldn't. How would you know if it'd be perfectly normal? So you're saying that when a kid finds out that most kids have a mom and a dad, and as soon as he finds out what homosexuality is, you don't think that he'd at least question what's going on? But questions aren't so bad..

So let's pick a scenario here. You and I know that many adults now aren't too keen of the idea of little kids bieng anywhere near male homosexuals. Don't deny it, you know most parents would take their kids out of a classroom (elementary school, at least) if they found out that the teacher was gay. So let's say that the kid here wants to invite over his guy friends...do you really think that the parents are going to be too keen on letting 2 gay men that they barely know, if they know them at all, look after their kids?

    >> He might get teased/picked on but then kids get teased/picked on for all kinds of things, ethnic minority kids get picked on for being in an ethinic minority, does that mean its justifiable to think that maybe ethnic minorites shouldn't have/adopt kids? <<

Geez, ethnic minority kids don't really get picked on. Plus, even though what you're saying is an unfair generalization, you said in your post the kids get picked on for being an ethnic minority...so why would ethnic minority parents have anything to do with it if they're not the real parents? Right, they don't. Point moot.

See that's the thing. The literature I read (in the past, it may have changed by now ) said that "it is belived" that depression is caused by chemicals in the brain, blah blah blah...

So it seemed to me that they (the researchers) just kinda decided "if I can't prove them wrong, I'll just agree".

    ....

Beware the dangers of listening to music and attempting to hold true to a contention! I had this great arguement and was gonna jot it down and defend it and all, then Deadsy came on, and I started singing along. Result - Massive train of though derailment. Hopefully I'll be able to continue later...

I think what Clyde was trying to illustrate was that the child would grow up in an environment in which it had 2 parents that were of the same sex, and wouldn't question it until later in life.

What i'm saying is that having a gay couple for parents would be "normal" for the kid because that would be all he knew. Sure he'd question, minority kids question why it is that they are a different colour to the other children.

"So let's pick a scenario here. You and I know that many adults now aren't too keen of the idea of little kids bieng anywhere near male homosexuals. Guess we live different worlds, one of the teachers at my school was gay. No-one even blinked. I certainly never heard of anyone being taken out of the school when he came out.

"let's say that the kid here wants to invite over his guy friends...do you really think that the parents are going to be too keen on letting 2 gay men that they barely know, if they know them at all, look after their kids?"

I suppose it depends how prejudiced they are. Lets say the parents are black, same question, same answer.

"Geez, ethnic minority kids don't really get picked on"

    Umm..... HELLO, i think not.

"Plus, even though what you're saying is an unfair generalization, you said in your post the kids get picked on for being an ethnic minority...so why would ethnic minority parents have anything to do with it if they're not the real parents? Right, they don't. Point moot."

What? Your argument seems to be that gay couples should not adopt because the kid may get picked on as a result, the same argument can be leveled at ethnic minority parents, whether they are adopting or not is irrelevant point is they are raising a child.

The bottom line is that racism, and homophobia are exactly the same; ignorant prejudice. Ethnic minorites should be able to adopt and have children, they should not feel pressured into not doing so because of racism, likewise gay couples should be able to adopt, and should not feel pressured into not doing so because of homophobia.
