    Doubleanti and IP's

From a recent AIM converstation I had with Aran Elus I discoverd that Doubleanti had told him my IP. I realize that mods have the abilites to view IP's but that does not give them the right to tell others what it is. I tried yesterday to ask him over aim about this and I was left with no response.

Yes, we can view the IPs. No, we don't give them to anyone else.

If your nickname in AIM or ICQ or any other client is public, so is your IP once you are online.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.

not a 100% correct as aim and icq now bounce through a central server so you cant get anyone's ip unless you establish a direct connection
eg: sending a file, real time chat etc...

If thats true, how can Trillian tell me the IP of most peoples on my list (some of which I've never talked to)

Also, using netstat -a will reveal someones IP, if you've been chatting with them. I don't see why it matters if someone knows your IP anyway.

Note: Trillian is an ICQ clone /w AIM, Y! and MSN

have they chosen to block their ip? if yes then you should not be able to get them unless you establish a direct connection... i know for a fact it works this way for icq as for msn and aim their respective companys claim to go through main severs so the same should apply...

No you informed me that doubleanti had told you my IP. It would have been imposible for you to get my IP from your fourms because I visited them when I was on a Proxy as a result of are converstion.

Don't make doubleanti look good, the only place you could get my real IP from is here.

you'd be behind a proxy while visiting here too. What, do you just randomly turn your proxy server on and off wheneve ryou feel like it?

anyhow, i only logged 3 IPs (mine, JKim's, and GGs or yours) in the three hours around when i gave you the address of the forums, and you and GG told me that you both visited it. A proxy can't possible make your IP into GGs or vice versa.

I turn it off off because it makes my Internet browsing very very slow.
