    LOL

School teaches you nothing. It is organized slavelabor meant to bore you and make you a part of a system. Be a free thinker and not a brainwashed individual. Your best achievements come through self teaching, listen not to what the slavedrivers will tell you. Believe what you know.
lol, only 2 more years after this (then college, which according to some is much, much worse)

i dunno, from what i've done so far (i've made battleship, a pacman style game, and im working on a text-based rpg) math isn't too important (or maybe its still important, but it seems more fun when its part of a game )

i guess i don't like math because you do 20ish problems and don't accomplish anything, much less care about the 20 problems

to me, database non-game programming is the same, just boring stuff

    just my personal opinions

That's terrible. My computer teacher says I am to ahead of my class, so he lets me program what I want, and it usually impresses him so I get 100's.

    Talking I like System programming

    Goal : Software for software....

That means , Advanced programmers make languages and systems, not for regular users but for programmers how will using their work to make programs that public can use.

for me, I will try to learn more and more about system programing and language programming ...
That is my goal ... to learn how to start from the begining of the creation

    C++
    The best

Not true. Organized education gives you discipline, skills, and a broader base than you would otherwise have. If your only interests are programming, say, and math, then, presumably, all you would do is study those subjects, and likely, you would probably get a pretty patchy education even in those subjects because you will not have the self discipline to practice the boring fundamentals. Also, you will neglect important skills, such as learning to express yourself clearly and well (a skill some on this board might be able to improve on). Even worse, you might not discover the beauty of literature and history, and thus fail to understand the intellectual and social heritage that is yours. Some say they can educate themselves, but such people are one in a thousand. That said, I cannot wait to graduate.
I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience and to forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race.

Windows XP consists of 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company, that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

    School? Huh? Whats that?

Well, I am 16 and I have attempted my A+ exam already(Getting 71%) yes its a fail but if you've taken it(220-221) its asks some pretty dumb questions and poorly illustrated pictures as well as the nervousness of $225 on the line. I know of 3 questions that I got wrong and I know the answer now then I would've had 85% but oh well. School is mostly pointless... like English, I really dont think that analysing Shakespear is gonna help me in life, or social, and why do we need Chemistry for University for programming? I just hate that, since I suck at it. I like learning math though, because it helps me understand concepts, as well as physics... I really like that. So I really suffer in some subjects for the fact that I spend 5 to 8 hours on my PC Week days and 12 on weekends etc... School has too much pointless crap though, they should scrap english and social at least. School isnt actually mostly pointless I am directing the School part more-so at High School.

By the way never buy Preparation or Cram books for Comptia certification from Coriolis. I was getting 98 to 100% on all of their practice exams and look what I got on my A+ 71% when I needed 75%. I heard that Transcender was good; just so that you guys dont ripp yourselves off.

I want to be a game programmer. However, I see this as a very difficult profession to get into. So my goal is to stay independent and makes games until I get the chance to join a company if I still wish to do so. Being an independent game company is not quite as difficult as it used to be because of the Internet. There are many oppurtunities to make 'good' money while being 'independent'. I'm 15 right now, and I will be graduating in 2 years. My goal is to start making my first professional style of game at the beginning of next summer. I'm sure I will be able to find people to help me out on the game too (friend of mine for art, my brother for coding, etc...). My senior year will be easy on me in the sense that I will only have to take 3 classes each semester. I will be able to spend a lot of time on my game during that time. Once I graduate I plan on spending another year on my game, and to release that game for sell over the net during that year. If the sales go well I don't think I'll go to college. However, if the sales don't go very well then I'll most likely attend college. I first want to explore my options with programming games to it's fullest. If it works out then I don't see much reason for me to go to college. If it doesn't work out then it might be a good idea to attend college.

Xei, I feel about exactly the same way as you do. Since I've started to program I don't see much reason going to school...it's not helping my future out the least bit going to school. In fact I almost feel as if going to school is holding me back. Luckily next year my schedule is a lot better than this year's.

BtW, I realize that any time my goals (plans) could change. For now, though, these are my plans, and I have no intentions of changing them or wanting to change them. I'm going to (and am currently) prepare myself as much as I possibly can.

I feel sortof like School is holding me back. It would all be good if they would just give us a choice of taking English or Social. All I want is math and physics then Calculus. Then I want University's and College to stop wanting Chemistry for Programming. I understand needing it for Architecture etc.. for PC's but programming it really doesnt have any relevance. Oh well, 2 more years to go.

Yeah right.. Schools give you final projects and other little creative freedoms. Once you get into a company and start coding full time you will have to code to their standards and of course to their specifications. Sounds great to me (not)

However I must admit they don't teach enough in school. I already knew and was very experienced in C when I came to college. Went through the university's C class and came out of it suprised at how much they didn't teach these people.

One thing to you new kidz though... If you don't have a passion for this. If you are doing this just for the money or just because your parents say so. Please stop. Please don't try and learn it and get a job. More or less you will mess up some companies code which will make a skilled person have to deal with lame bugs.

    howdy,
i voted for app,s but at this point i wouldnt be picky, i've been an iron worker for 20 years and to be honest climbing 200 feet in the air to have someone swing a 4000# beam in so i can stick some bolts in it just dosnt excite me any more and like i've said before it would be nice to work with people that can speak with words that contain more than four letters and that have an intelect higher than my 6 year old son.
im am teaching myself C++ and perl and someday i WILL write code for a living.

I don't like you very much. Please post a lot less.

If that comment was even partially directed towards me in any such way (if not sorry) and if it was I resent being called a 'kid'

My parents could really careless and would probably rather see me not to do code. My body would rather see me not to do it too lol (can't get much sleep having to go to school, work nights, and program while maintaining somewhat of a life...about 3-5 hours on most nights). I am completely committed to programming, especially game programming. I'm not in it for the money, and one of the main reasons why I want to own my own game company is so I can do what I want to do. Being an employee of a company will restrict your creativity. However, being the owner of your company also has it's down sides. For right now, though, I don't have to worry about any of that. For right now it's still a 'hobby', but soon it will no longer be a hobby.

on the subject of school i'd add this: the sooner you understand the difference between education and training the better; you'll save yourself a lot of time and money if you match your goals/methodes accordingly. but, i have a feeling you're just going to ignore me, so i'll leave now

Nobody offended me, and I'm not feeling sorry for myself because I have nothing to feel sorry for. I had no intentions of coming off either way. I just wasn't sure if that comment was direct towards me or not. I know that biosx wasn't directing that comment towards me and me alone, but I wasn't sure if he was including me as part of that group he was directing. I don't see myself as being part of that group he addressed, that's all. And I was kinda joking when I said that I resented the kid comment.
